My knee is bad, and in about a month I'm looking at about a year on crutches. (<- for info not pity)
Logic is lugging a heavy camera and or interchangeable lenses will be a problem on crutches. I can probably get about $1,000 for what I have on Ebay. I want a P&S for about the same amount. I’m looking forâ€Â¦.
Raw is a must.
Manual control.
Good range, without sacrificing quality.
ISO to 800 without too much noise.
I have no problem with used or a refurb from a reputable dealer or seller on Ebay, Amazon or the like.
This will be my primary camera for about 3-5 years until get back on my financial legs.
Is there any such critter, or am I pissing in the wind.
Thanks in advanceâ€Â¦Alan

I like the aperture on the Canon G15, I could easily trade that for range. |

sony rx100 or sony rx100 II
I have the rx100 and love it. Great quality, manual controls, good ISO range. I'm not sure what the II has to offer that's makes it worth the extra cash, but a look at these 2 is my best advice. |

Thanks Jason and doc, lots of reading to do. So far the G15 w/ my 270 EXII looks to be great in low light. |

For the price a G15 is very nice. I love mine and happy I picked it, I too was going to get a RX100 II but just couldn't justify the cost of it.
My current image in the Warm challenge was taken with the G15 and it turned out pretty well. |

Another vote here for the RX100, and they are getting cheap with the new version coming to stores.
That said don't expect the iso performance to be in line with best in class DSLR, but you can get away pretty good at iso 800.
I took this one in favor of the Ricoh GR because fo the reach (28 to 100mm more or less), but as you zoom in it goes from f1.8 (nice!) to f4.9 at 100mm (crap!), so I tend to use it most of the times at 28mm f1.8. Probably today I would have picked up the Rocoh if I would have realized that I could live with only 28mm.

Does the rx100 ii have a view finder? I'm looking for a PS as well, but I'd really like one with a viewfinder. My eyes don't work well with the screens in bright light. Also, what about Lumix?

Almost all optical viewfinders on pocket cameras are barely better than worthless. |

When was the last time you evaluated how well you could view the screens in sunlight?
I ask because from some of your previous comments (shutter lag, etc), it seems that you're basing your information on cameras that are about seven to ten generations old.
Grab an S95 and tell me if you can see that screen in the sun. I sure can. |

There's an optional electronic viewfinder, however it's $450 and the built-in tilting display is already very good in direct sunlight. |

regarding viewfinders and screens:
I was born with cataracts that seem to be getting worse now, so I have a worse than normal time seeing screens in the daylight. I couldn't read the screen on my old droid in bright daylight, even in the shade, and many times I have problems with the 7D screen. It's just my lousy eyes. They can fix them, but since I'm still young enough that my eyes can still adjust a bit on their own, they aren't recommending surgery yet. It's just that with the need for bifocals, the congenital cataracts are affecting me more than when I was younger.
The other thing is, I find it faster bringing it up to my eye because that's what I'm used to. I suppose that part I could learn. :)
