I couldn't find the old topic after much searching so I decided to start annew (lol pun).
I looked at the old 'Something New' challenge, (ha! opposites, sorry, I'll stop now), and all the winning images were pictures representing something new. Like New life, New day, new car, etc... Now my question is this: Does it have to be a picture of a new thing (as in the challenge description) that you've never entered before, or are people leaning toward voting photographs of "objects that are new" higher?
Basically is it a free study with everyone entering types of shots that they've never entered before, OR is it pictures of new objects? Or does it matter?

The old challenge was for new objects. This one is for images you've never shot before, regardless of age. Basically a free study. |

I know the winning shot will contain something that represents something new, because those are the ones that bring upt the obvious idea of new. I tend to think that only a handful of people read the challenge outlines anymore, especially when it comes to voting. It'll be interesting though to see how the voting goes. But if I were to make a guess, it would be a shot of something obviously new, like a new day, car, etc...

Yeah, basically a free study. A free study hoping to make people try new ideas, which is good, but also is up to the intregity of that person.

I hope folks have read the outline because my "subject" is NOT new, however it taught me something new about my camera and was a shot I'd been thinking about trying anyway. So, for me, it was "new". I am pleased with how it turned out, so now it's time to see what the voters think. |

It is always fun to learn something new on your camera, especially when you thought you "knew it all." That's what I love about photography is that you are ALWAYS learning something, no matter what your level is. Yeah, the voting will definitely be interesting.
PSHope your shot does well, you have en EXCELLENT eye for shots and I love your work. By the way, I would like to thank you for the critique you gave on my Silhouettes shot. It is greatly appreciated.
;D

My picture isn't something new either - it is something I've never photographed before in a place I've not taken pictures. It will be interesting to see what pictures are in the challenge. |

This challenge was HARD!!!
I have been working on it all week, looking, thinking, coming up blank until tonight I grabbed the kids and took off on a road trip, taking roads we've never taken before, looking for something I've never shot before and FINALLY found something! It's not new to DPC but it's new to me! ;)
Deannda
Have a feeling it will score low as a result |

I was thinking of doing a camera/flash technique but didn't happen. My entry is shot from a place I've never shot a photo before although you'd never know by just looking at it. I like it enough to submit it but I predict a score of 5.2 to 5.4

I took a pic of something that I had never seen before, and hopefully many others haven't either, do you think that will score well, if the shot looks good also.
I know this sounds very vauge and without a picture to look at you all are probably like, "I have no idea what to say to this guy."

This is pretty funny. I looked at the first something new, and sort of went on the premise that it would be along the same lines. I will read more carefully next time.
OOPs. My guess for mine. In the mid 4's. |

Mine also. This is precisely what the instructions say. |

I played it safe and shot something I've never seen before in a town where I've never photographed before AND made sure the subject was both unique and suggested something new. I think that covers all the bases. Hoping to continue a mini-streak of 6+ scores. Fingers crossed. |

I am going to predict a 5.79 for mine. My first prediction...we'll see how close I come! (I would probably give it about a 7, voting on it myself.) |

That's how I read it, as well. I predict a 5.48 for me...I like it much more than that, but I have noticed that when I really like a pic, no one else who votes does! Oh well...it's the fun of the challenge! :o)

Well, mine is something I have photographed before, but certainly not in the WAY it was photographed this time and not in a PLACE I had ever been before today. I understand what you mean. It seems I have "unique" taste in images - which you must as well. I think that's just fine! And I find that when I go back and re-do my pictures using the suggestions I've been given, I usually like them even better. I appreciate you guys! Good luck to all in this challenge. |

The first thing I thought of was the moon:
I did not think it was all that original, or that it would do all that well, so I kept looking. Then at nearly the last minute I find something that I liked better. Both are shots I have never attempted before; and are literally as opposite as night and day. :D
The shot I submitted is a very common subject for DPC, hope I do not get counted down too much for that, but it is not one I have ever done. The lighting was a challenge, but I am happy with how it turned out.
Now I just have to wait a few more minutes for the voting to begin so I will be able to see all of its flaws perfectly clear. :(

UNCLE!!! I GIVE!!! These all look like 8's to 10's to me (except mine - which now I don't like as much). I'm impressed.

Ditto! Two votes and sitting at a 5. Not too shabby.

The first person gave me a 7. Totally surprising. I'm expecting the brown. Seriously. I almost didn't submit, but decided I just though.
The second vote gave me a 3, and that's what I'm expecting lots of. I'd probably give myself a 4. |

Four 5's in a row! Woohoo. My guess is that I will finish at around a 5!
