OK,
I have been a member for 11 years but have not really participated for a few years now and seem to have lost my photography mojo and confidence! Any tips on how to get it back- I feel so behind the times...Thanks and looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Welcome back :)

I can't help you with the loss of your mojo as I have the same problem.

I just take snaps these days, mostly of my grandchildren, but I still love this site and the people.

Hello Natasha , yes its a bit of a problem for me at the moment as well.
I am trying to get some interest in entering something, but not having much inspiration .
Hope someone comes along with some suggestions if not will have to take up golf or something.
I am still voting and commenting which may help a little I feel.

G'day! Welcome back and all that. My suggestion would be for you to put your name in the hat for the next round of TPL. that should definitely kick start the mojo and you'll get to meet some fabulous new friends. Search the forums for more info about it, but the first round was great fun.

Hey Natasha! Welcome back.

Mojo seems to be scarce these days. But you could start by commenting and voting in current challenges. Also check out the side challenges, or maybe start one. Or maybe choose a photo technique with which you are not familiar but always wanted to try and start experimenting with that.

Behind the times?

Let's see if I can help. I'll tell you what I'd want to know if I knew nothing about DPC, and wanted the really fast catch-me-up.

TPL season 2 is about to start spinning up after this season's championship round is over (two weeks from now)

TPL teams will definitely help you to improve fast, but you'll want to make sure you're really ready to dive in, since you'll really be expected to put in at least one entry per week.

..

Voters are still harsh, people are still whiners. :D

..

Adobe screwed up and released the entire Creative Suite Version 2 as effectively freeware, so upgrade if you're not using this now.

Topaz Denoise, Topaz Adjust, Nik Silver Efex, Photomatix Pro, Portrait Pro, and Phase One Capture One are all excellent tools, and should be considered.

Note that there is a careful balancing act with any of these filters - too much denoise gives a plasticky look, too little and you have noisy photos - Too much Portrait Pro, and you have Barbie, too little, and you have Donatella Versace - Topaz adjust is particularly tricky to use effectively.

....

Don't worry about your body, it's just fine - lenses are more important, and you've got a fine selection.

If you want to buy new hardware, lighting is everything (repeat this a whole bunch of times, unless you already have lighting equipment)

...

Check the dates on your cameras, make sure they're right (to avoid DQ)

Also, refresh yourself on the rules (to avoid DQ)

And, be sure to clean your sensor, sensor dirt doesn't get any love 'round here. ;)

..

If you've got any specific questions, just let me/us know.

Cheers,
-CB

Carefully read before installing some of these will not work with CS2.

Have you tried it?

I use all of these with CS2 and they all work just fine.

:) Like I said, I use Nik Silver Efex with CS2, and yes - once in a while the plug in will crash if I do something stupid like try to run it against a layer mask, mostly it's just fine.

Cool, I have wanted to try it on my CS3, my only hesitation was the previous Nik statment.
