Not unless people start commenting about each other rather than the photos themselves. There is no rule requiring photos be in "good taste" ... |

I don't mind reviewing a collection of images of hand gestures or image collections of any kind. Decades ago, for example, I was never offended by Robert Mapplethorpe's photography portfolios. I'm no prude, nor curmudgeon.
That said, it is quite a different situation altogether when another human being sends me a non-verbal (photo) message intended to communicate disrespect, ill will and maybe hatred. The one-to-one communication of an affront takes it to a personal and unacceptable level. Cultures, countries and societies do differ. I understand this fact of life that some people are oblivious and/or insensitive to the message they are communicating to another human being. The way I was raised and where I was raised, it would be unheard of to "flip the bird" at someone. At the very least, that hand gesture meant a physical fight or gun fight. It was never taken lightly. It was serious business.
I sort of get "it". There are other parts of the world which casually and routinely use hand gestures which are highly offensive elsewhere. In some areas, some hand gestures are almost like a wave of acknowledgement, or social communication. Not in my world! And, in an Internet website environment, I would hope that others would be somewhat more conscious and aware of whether their non-verbal communication may offend other participants with whom they are communicating.

not sure why you are saying this but my post wasn't directed (nor influenced) by you. It was that lot of forum moderation has been going on the past day or two, for whatever reason. i just expected this topic to be found too mature for some to expect us too be able to handle.
i enjoy the off topic quips and arguments, its makes the site fun. its easy to tell when it gets into full blown flames (which rarely happens). at that point step in, not before. |

OK -- is it time to lock it now?
If you have something you want to say about one of the other commentors, just dont. |

I don't. I have no issue with the other commenters. |

I just take issue with locking and editing threads because they hurt DPC morale. If it's against the rules so be it. But don't go editing threads and warning people because the thread is off topic or you don't like its tone.
That hurts dpc morale, nobody likes over oppressive authority. |

We are only asking you to follow the Forum Rules, which everyone agrees to do as part of the site user's agreement. Staying on-topic and not baiting or "verbally" abusing other members are part of those rules -- if you don't believe me go read them yourself, especially #14.
If you can't have fun without insulting others you've found the wrong playground. |

I was rather astonished to see a photo in the British papers of the Duchess of Cambridge clearly flying the bird inadvertently. |
