Adobe is giving away CS2 (the whole suite not just Photoshop). It's 10 years old, but should still do most of what people typically use.

Linky

Their download server appears to have crashed from all the people grabbing it. Hopefully it will be back up soon.

[UPDATE]
Looks like Adobe messed up and did not intend to release CS2 for free.

Not a bad marketing scheme. Other companies have been doing this for years with other software. Unlikely to cannibalize existing sales of the latest and greatest and gets people using their product.

Which one did you like better? CS2 or PSE9?

I would think PSE9 would be better. It's a lot newer, but then again it isn't free. I have PS CS5, but I'm going to grab CS2 anyway to pick up the other parts of the suite.

Here is a blog that has Adobe's direct download links that still work. He also put in the registration keys next to the links.

In a word, no. You could convert them to DNG, however, and they should open at that point, I think. I can't remember if CS2 supported DNG though. In any case, you'd be working with an ancient version of ACR. Might actually be easier to convert with the camera manufacturer's software. Or convert with Lightroom and work with JPEG or TIFF in Ps.

doubtful. it's at the bottom of the blogspot entry about raw files not working properly

Well, PSE9, obviously, since that's what I replaced it with.....and PSE11 is out as well.

Yeah, Elements isn't free, but if you pay more than $79.99 for it, you're not shopping right.

I know that both my PSE9 & PSE10 open a lot of later model RAW files......I use both with my D7000.

It's only my D600 that forces me to use my LR to open the NEF files.

LR4.3 is only $150 as well.

What on earth can you get from CS2 that's not in CS5?

"the other parts of the suite" meaning the products that are not photoshop, i assume.

Correct, I'm not interested in Photoshop CS2, but I do want to play around with Illustrator CS2 and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. Premiere might be a little too dated for current video, but I want to give it a shot.

CS2 Download:

Hello everyone. My apologies but I'm as it appears Adobe is not giving away the CS2 Suite for free:

So as it turns out you can only legally install if you have a valid copy.

Oops.

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See .

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

Ouch. I'm still a little confuzzled as to how Adobe intends to control whether someone had a valid license. It doesn't seem like they can.

Wow, that is going to be a mess to cleanup. There were countless reputable sites reporting that it was free.
