I have had the dubious privilege and joy to meet the Mighty Bear_Music, and simply marvel at the depth and breadth, not only of his considerable knowledge and occasionally useful trivia, but his incredible generosity at sharing it. In addition to being a crackpot cracking photographer, he's my go-to guy not only for all things photography, but also literature, poetry, art, sailing, relationship advice etc., etc. There is perhaps no more well-rounded, gentlemanly guy than him on DPC, and is deserving of his many accolades. I think we should make him DPC's official Poet Laureate. |

Well, "I ain't all that," he said blushingly, but... more to the point... If we are going to be bestowing a laurel wreath on a Poet Laureate in DPC, there's only one brow that deserves the honor: our esteemed Posthumous, whose erudition and poetic skills dwarf my own.
But thanks for the fan letter, Tangy!

Hmmmm, i dont know... weren't you the one that said "he's not all that" awhile ago? ;P
I think we need a poetry slam to decide it all. Thrre are some heavy duty poets here. We could sit back and watch the blood flow... :) |

I'd love to see the bear and the dead guy face off. |

Over in one of our private threads I challenged him once to do a sonnet in terza rima (very difficult), mistakenly believing he was a free-verse poet, not a metrical one. He produced a coherent masterpiece in a matter of hours, and I conceded victory on the spot. The man can write!
I'm not foolish enough to take him on again. My real skill's in editing, not writing. |

How lovely to have such a HERO, but if the truth be told...PuppyBear is just as lucky to have such a fan in you, Johanna. |

Do I smell a new challenge subject here? Hand written poetry, made by yourself, not copied from a book. Validation also by submitting the original by snail mail :)

With apologies to Robert Frost:
Breathes there a bear who isn't moved
When he finds his stuff is understood
And not entirely disapproved
By his website's far-flung neighborhood? |

It is a poet with a long, noosed rope used to catch horses, cattle, or other livestock; |

Ok, fine, Bear. The dead guy can be the poet. I guess you're more of a Renaissance Man anyway, what with the cooking, the quoting, the nautical trivia... |

The reality is that there are a stable of good poets hiding at DPC. Or at least enough for a team of superheros.
raish and skewsme are both brilliant poets, for example. |

There ya go. ZZ especially tugs my intellectual pinkie figure a lot. I'm a big fan of Peter Richards. I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know Skewsme is a poet. |

Can I be the smart ass laureate?

Most laureates come in the shape of a horseshoe and if I'm not mistaken (reading threads) horseshoes are often used for submissions on DPC as well. Therefore, a Poet Laureate fits well. |
