I'm assuming the admins will deal with anything unacceptably (by our rules) violent , degrading, or obscene.

Oh no. Don't worry about it. It just gave me the opportunity to put my 2 cents in. Hey, cool profile picture. :)

Bronco; It's great that you are into taking pictures! Please don't be offended by others' criticism or comments. Don't be discouraged! Good picture takers understand that others' comments are only to help or give opinion, not to be mean. You may want to ask a friend about words you don't understand. Or post a question asking what a word means. "Grainy" is a term used to describe how a photograph looks. Grainy photographs look like it's put together by bits of sand. Unless done on purpose, photographs should not be grainy. -NBT

I was merely pointing out that our lovely admins can be fined $10,000 for taking the personal info of anyone under the age of 13 (without a parent's permission). I think it would suck if the site disappeared because of parents subconsciously forcing their hobby on their attention-starved children. That's all.

You seem to be forgetting that all the parents here are helping their kids set up the account. That hardly qualifies as taking personal information w/out parent''s permission.

I don't remember seeing any "[x] I have my parents permission" checkbox on the signup form. How was I supposed to know that? I'm just looking out for the best interest of the site.

Plus I don't like *anyone* telling me I should be "nice." Someone should have explained to him beforehand that his work is going to be criticized maliciously, and that that's essentially the whole point of the site (to _improve_).

It takes a fairly enlightened kid to take adult criticism. I hope they can handle it.

I believe the point of this site is to criticize constructively, not maliciously. Constructive criticism encourages improvement. Malicious criticism is intentionally hurtful.

It takes a failrly enlightened kid or adult to offer good constructive criticism. I hope you can handle it.

You just hit a nerve! My boy is not starving for attention, he is just wanting to be like MOM. Shouldn't all kids want to do and be just like their parents. You need to take a good look at your childhood nightmare and get some help. Not all parents are as bad as yours!!
And if that isn't the case then you need to control yourself and let the kids enjoy this sight as well. #1 Bronco Fan has looked at your profile and realizes that there are going to be arrogant, selfish, unwanted, lonely people out there who need to find PEACE with in themselves. Until then this will be a good learning experience for him and a growing one for me. :P

> I believe the point of this site is to criticize constructively, not maliciously.
oh phew, for a minute there i thought lang and drew were just trying to bolster their mutual collection of porn

i dont believe you can hold a double standard to criticism like that when the only thing that stands behind it is your personal opinion of what malicious criticism is.
i find maliciousness to be pretty funny, in fact. the world would be pretty boring without it.
and no one is ever physically hurt, unless of course you count all the conniptions people have when you insult their brood. which reminds me.

> Shouldn''t all kids want to do and be just like their parents.
the answer is no. kids do not want anything for more than a short while.
this is part of the generally accepted definition of childhood, last i checked.

> arrogant, selfish, unwanted, lonely people out there who need to find PEACE with in themselves
yeah you pretty much got ryan down to a t there actually

p.s. we''re not going to go around walking on eggshells for the benefit of the greater good, which tends to enjoy stroking its own ego without our help. ah, the marvelous human condition - love it or leave it!

I am 39 and new at this too!...The current voting challenge being my 2nd submission. I have been fortunate to get a few really good suggestions in the comments each week. When I was thinking about things for the 2nd challenge I considered things that where mentioned from the 1st. If I can come up with any kind of fun idea for this week I will consider 2 weeks worth of comments when I shot my photographs and then try to sort out the good from the bad (if there are any good ones).

My husband has patted me on the head at least 5 times a day saying please keep trying, or thats pretty good. I believe this picture is better (at least I feel good about it), and I hope that someday I will be able to say that I am at least a capable photographer.

But the best thing about this is the fun I have had!

Some of the most fun has produced the worst pictures you have ever seen. For instance...Dont try to shoot a picture by candle-light...very bad idea.

My point here, now that I have rambled on is that we all started taking photographs because it made us feel good. We dont do it to make anyone but ourselves happy. So I figure with every photo I shoot, and every week I keep trudging along here I will learn something and have some fun. What else can you ask for out of a hobby?

Everyone''s input? Well its nice, but not the whole point now is it?

HEY BRONCO DUDE :D

Remember this ADVICE: don't listen to anyone except the positive voices! Especially when it comes to the arts, and your own creations. :)

Because no matter how famous you become or how much the world thinks you're a genius, there will be those who still say bad about you.

Just think of your favorite band, and how much you like them, yet how many people still dislike them.

there are people all over the world who don't have anything worthwhile to add to your life , and the internet makes it easier for us to experience and communicate with them then ever.

which is why now, more than ever, you have to be good at just ignoring lame-o's. because they will always be around.

that's my advice for you. : ).

Hoewver, to the forums, I should say, that I think also, that just because one is a child, doesn't mean that one should come to the forums and try to regulate the discourse on this site. there are people who come on the forums every week, and say 'dont say bad about my picture this or that'. and the reaction is always the same: "defending one's picture in the forums isn't the way the site works" is always the response.

I do not believe this should be any different just because of the age of the defender.

I think the question of should kids be allowed to participate is a non-question, but only under the premise that the site should not have to change and their parents take full responsibility for this exposure. As long as that's the case, there's not a problem.

But if the site does start to be changed and more regulated because of that, then we should specify that this is a kids site. That way, people can make the choice to either stay with a more protected kids' site, and govern themselves accordingly, or go somewhere that is more wide open.

but we either need to explicitly take a stand on this one way or the other, sysadmins.

thanks

Hey kids: Hang in there. Even if you get negative criticism, look at it to see if you can learn anything. The fact that you are able to compete with adults speaks highly of you. There are a few "people" here who like to try to get under your skin, just read what they say, chuckle, and move on.
