Langdon,
I have made a few photography related purchases I regret, but I don't regret the $50 I've spent on the last two years membership here at DPC. For only $25 a year I have received:
1) An invaluable education in photography
2) Access to a great place to interact with photographers of all levels and people of all backgrounds
3) A constant source of motivation to get out and practice the craft of photography
For that I thank you. When my membership expires here in about a month I will be happy to re-subscribe for another year. I love this place.
Best,
Mark

I just left a post in the other thread, but it belongs here so I'll repeat it.

Since this thread is an open letter to Langdon, this is what I want to say:

Langdon, thank you, thank you, thank you, for making this site open to all who wish to participate. I remember my excitement when I accidentally stumbled upon DPC and I just couldn't wait to join and start participating. That was 4+ years ago and I still love being here.

Thank you again, have a great day.

Many years ago I had two reasons to join this site:

- The voting system
- Only active photographers allowed (No photos from the archive)

I'm still here for those reasons

Btw. The very nice community here was a bonus and it still is

Dear Langdon,

There are believers, and there are these of little faith. We work hard every day in these forums to speak the truth to these who don't believe in your almighty power. May you one day reveal yourself and quiet these unsettled souls.

Yours in DPC,
JH

Been here since 2002. I'm a lot less active now than in the first few years I was here, but, as Bear said,

Add me to the list of thankful folks. My life would have been immeasurably poorer these past 8 [10 for me] years without DPC in it.

Thank you.

I haven't been around much lately because of life things but let me just say that this place rocks, it is the reason I go out and take photos and it has helped me in so many ways, there is nothing better than a fare challenge to help better oneself and that can only be found here. I certainly wouldn't have had the motivation to take all the photos I have if it were not for DPC, thanks Langdon.

Well, I signed on November 23, 2003. Almost time for a 10th anniversary (and 600 Challenge entries).
I guess I'll stick around a little longer and say, "thank you Langdon" for a fun ride.

Meanwhile, as they say, "this thread is useless without pictures!"

Nice one, Langdon.

Bump for anyone who might want to add to the thread.....

One of the benefits of this site for me is the worldview. It's funny, 'cause people grumble about the narrow minded voters and the same old, same old. When I attend a show, seminar, or class here in my home area, it demonstrates to me just how wide and varied the breadth of experience is that comes from this community. Things I take for granted from my exposure to them here are not even known so many places in the "real world".

Techniques that I've learned here have put me in the truly advanced level in most available local classes, and I've actually found myself helping struggling photogs in some of those classes simply because of the level of expertise I've acquired here at the hands of many mentors.

And after about 350 challenges, I certainly am able to endure any judging at the camera club level.

Thanks again, Langdon & Community!

Well, I would like to thank you Langdon and I know with certainty that my husband would like to thank you. You see, everytime he wants to slip out with his buddies to go hunting, fishing, golfing, etc., etc, he lookss at me with a hopeful expression and says "honey, you've got a challenge to work on right?....." lol

Seriously, thanks for everything you do.

I don't mind adding to the positive side of this debate.

I have been here for years, I have grown and learnt here. I have made some amazing friends too, some I have actually met and some I hope to still meet in my lifetime.
The site is an inspiration to myself and many others. I have personally introduced many people to this site and have watched them grow into confident working Photographers.

I will be one of the last to leave this ship if & when it ever hits the floor.

I agree that this thread need pictures, so I will post my first ever photo i submitted and my latest one as a mark of respect to DPC. Thanks.

1st ever entry taken with a Sony F828 on May 4th 2004 scoring 5.2754

My latest entry (except any still in voting) taken with a D800 on Nov 9th 2012 scoring 5.1194

I'll add my huge appreciation of DPC to this thread. It's been a pretty much constant photography inspiration since i first joined in the tail end of 2009. Whilst i wasn't new to photography then i had taken a few years off and joining DPC coincided with a concerted effort to get back into photography. I also joined when i was living in Egypt and DPC has functioned as a great visual diary for me; tracking my return to the UK and settling back in Wales where i grew up and having my second child and watching her grow up. I even entered a photograph taken during her birth-there's dedication to the art! It's also been marvellous as a way of experimenting and there are so many brilliant photographers and artists here that i admire and who inspire me. I find myself now as a full time wedding photographer and DPC and its members have been instrumental in helping me set that up over the last year. So, thanks DPC!

My first entry in 2009...

and my most recent...

Not sure it shows any progression there but i definitely have progressed i'm sure of it! I'd certainly photograph Egypt a lot differently now if i went back.

Been here on and off since 2002...

Thank you Langdon. You've built something incredible here

Thank you Langdon for everything you've done in making this a great site. It is still more active than most of the so called "modern" sites. Every time I come here the forums are buzzing with activity, which is the pulse of a community based web site. It's been great coming here and I look forward to seeing more great work from the artists on this site.
