Why are you still bitching and whining, seriously, we have heard you do that for the last 18 pages, it is this exact attitude that you repeat over and over again that drive people away from this site. You really think newbies are gonna be impressed with you or that anyone else here is??.
Why do you not, just go and do something constructive to help this site, instead of dragging this site down with your naysayer crap that dribbles out.
You have been told in a sledge hammer- point-blank hint, that NOTHING is going to change for the foreseeable future, don't like it, find someplace else, stop peddling this riot of depression that you give off.
Actual help and offers of say tutorials, workshops, PS lesson, be a mentor, you are GOOD enough to do all that, so do it and add a bonus to this site. |
Actually, I'm impressed with her. She is focused, resilient, concise, tenacious, takes good photos, has a high average score but .... but ... she shoots with a Canon.
Forget what I just said ... no love here ;-)

Since this thread is an open letter to Langdon, this is what I want to say:
Langdon, thank you, thank you, thank you, for making this site open to all who wish to participate. I remember my excitement when I accidentally stumbled upon DPC and I just couldn't wait to join and start participating. That was 4+ years ago and I still love being here.
Thank you again, have a great day.

I'm getting confused between all the Langdon threads - I think this is the bitching one? - The love room is on another thread.
It'd be far easier to create a new 'Letters to Langdon' sub-forum. |

It'd be far easier (and potentially more effective) if people who wanted to write Langdon a letter sent him either a PM or an Administrative ticket. |

But... I've written mine on special notepaper sprinkled with fairy dust, and I'm putting it up the chimney now. (Not sure if I'm on his 'nice' list this year though) |

Never mind...
Neither side seems to have any tolerance for a differing viewpoint. Preferring instead to ostracize, and banish those who don't sing the same song.
Both sides would do well to remember... Just because you have silenced a person, you have not proven them wrong.

I did just that the other day with a question about the Feast III "Speed Challenge" (that had a 48 day window). No response received. |

Sorry, I got lost some where on page 10.. Still trying to figure out what's broken. If it's the recent challenge errors..OOps he is human. You play and pay, you can not pay and still play. It's a challenge contest site so every one can't win and/or score high. (other then the Great ones here). There are some Great super knowledgable photographers here who will pretty much drop what there doing to help you if you only ask. Great community of people to be around. Just go talk to Art (pretty much anyway..lol). I took 4 months off this summer do to threads like this and we wonder why newbies drive by and leave. Sure it would be nice to have all the cool code updates out there. But at the end of the day, it's a photography site. Thank You Langdon. This site has helped me learn to take great snap shots. (I don't do art). My only post & 2cents on this subject. Now back to the original bitching/winning program for you viewing pleasures. |

MNet, one thing about the old DPC is that people then earned, and showed respect. Especially showed respect to the real artists. You may just make it amongst the current crowd, in 2005/6 you you and your kind were driven out, banished to the places where we did not have to get a taste of your negativity. Don't you simply want to perform a Langdon act and just disappear? Goodness, life is so short!!!! |
Oh my darlin Peter,,,, I truly wish I could give you more,,,, I wish you would let me be with you , right, until the end, you know I would , and would do it with it love and peace. I love you man!!!!!!!! xoxox |

Recent personal attacks hidden. Let's try to be civil, please. The enthusiasm and community spirit of DPC will not be restored by demonstrating its decline. |

Whoa... *backs slowly away*
Really folks? If we're so unhappy here, let's leave, right?
If we're only marginally happy here, let's try to make it better, right?
I'm happy here... If a new challenge shows up on time several times a week, I'm in.
Give me a chance to figure out how to better myself... and I love it. Compete against The Players? I'm in.
I just love to see how MY score does against MY average.
Just PLEASE... give me my challenges on time. And make them different from last week's. *grin*

I just entered shots in two challenges for the first time in months and guess what - they are no where close to my average scores. I found out that you need to practice and put your photos up by others to compare so you can see where you are going wrong. That's one of the things DP is to me - a measuring tool to judge my shots.
My prediction is that DP will be still be here for years regardless of what gloom and doom is spread.
The silence challenge is not getting any votes and it's over soon - I am off to vote on it and hope others will join in.
Ohh and I am starting a fund to buy Langdon a rad pair of reading glasses as I just know that he is reading all of these threads. Anyone want to chip in? |

I just "Ponied Up" in order to take part in FS and FSM 2013. A coupon code would have been nice but at 2$ a month not a deal breaker.
There is enough value here and the commenting far better than the Facebook like button. I would like to see more participants but if you look at DPREVIEW's competitions they cap entries (50, 100) and there are almost zero comments, even to the winners.
Promote DPC to your friends and budding photographers, clubs etc. It is still the best "home" for this type of competition formula.
All I would like to see is a true "Wildlife" category as "Nature" can be anything from your bird feeder, the beach or the zoo. Yes there will be those that take a 'zoo' shot and enter it into a Wildlife challenge and the only way to police that is by adding GPS functionality :) |

Yes, I come here to be insulted. |
Not my fault if you're a masochist.
Back to the discussion at hand. Staying put because some members couldn't be bothered to scroll to see an image is exactly why we're still stuck at 800px. It's absurd and you're solution is to do nothing.
edit - Does that mean we should cater to members who are still browsing the net with their VGA monitors? |
YES!! because a large image size does not affect you on your very expensive 1st world fancy pants monitor but it does affect any one else who isn't as well off. Why be stupid and exclude members just because they aren't up on technology?
You ALWAYS cater to the lowest common denominator that is where the most people are. |

Do take the time to yank the stats on that one and show us the breakdown... I for one would be really interested in that.

Agreed.
And in this case being the lowest part of the spectrum may mean you're uncommon. the lowest Common denominator means you have a montior, and that's being catered to in that you see an image on screen.
the median would be a decent monitor, of which 800px still won't take up the whole screen as 1280x1024 is a stardard size on any lower-mid range monitors (even old crt's can support it).
And regarding smardaz's comment about hearing about that monitor brand - they sell it as CostCo. Check em out ;) |

You ALWAYS cater to the lowest common denominator that is where the most people are. | No, you leave them behind in the name of progress.
When I was a professor, there was nothing worse than one or two people holding back the other thirty in the class.
