Perhaps. And yes, it would be horrible and very sad if it did, in fact, "die". Eventually, some day, all things do.

But perhaps if we just got back to enjoying the site as it is, be contributing members, be proud of our little beer bar, newcomers would want to join the fun. This squabbling is a giant DO NOT ENTER sign on the front page, far more offputting than any cliquishness that may be encountered after joining. If you have that fire, that passion, that need to have a site designed to your specifications, use the money you'd spend to buy this site, and create an alternative.

all well spoke, tanguera.

Margaret, just let go of it.

Why? Do you have a better idea how to get Langdon to look after his pet?

I don't kick my neighbors cat, it's their cat!

You just wrote that Langdon never reads this, yet this is where you keep writing, Margaret. It doesn't make sense. Truly.

I encourage you to follow your idea, but try a different approach. This one isn't working, and likely will NEVER give you the results you want. Do some research. Find out what this site is worth. Write to Langdon and make an offer. And if he's not interested, get your own pet, and look after IT.

So why do you keep on replying to this thread yourself? It is, after all, a letter to Langdon. And I have a message for him - SELL IT or let others RUN IT. Your message seems to be - DO NOTHING, we are VERY HAPPY with DPC as it is. What was the point of writing to him in the first place? Remind me.

Maybe Langdon doesn't want to look after this place anymore... Truth be told, I don't know if I blame him... I mean, how much could he really be making from this site? and even if he put more time in and could make more, maybe... just maybe... he doesn't want to. Maybe he hates computers, maybe he has a sick loved one, maybe he was abducted by aliens, or maybe, he just doesn't care. Either way, if it bothers you that much, leave... if not, pay your 25$, enter some challenges, and enjoy what is here, even if this place could be so much more...

I owe pretty much everything I have learned to this place, and while I am frustrated at the lack of initiative, I still love it. I have a child now, and have very little time to enter challenges. However, I visit every day and read the forums. I long for the day when DPL returns, but if it never does, I'm okay with that... So I would say ease up off of Langdon. If he wants to put more into this site, he will, but if he gets tired of hearing the incessant bitching, maybe he'll just pull the plug... Either way, I wouldn't blame him

I keep replying to you on this thread because this is where you are posting. I've been reading this thread for a while, and the truth is that there are just a couple of people who seem to be truly unhappy here. However, because no one who is happy here feels compelled to post, this thread makes it seem as if the entire membership is up in arms, and that is NOT the case. I want to make sure the membership (and Langdon, should he ever look) knows that.

Margaret, I do not believe you are a fool, and in fact seem to be quite intelligent. But it is clear that you are neither reading, understanding, or acknowledging all the places where I am agreeing that some things should be done, as well as numerous places where I offer suggestions which are instantly actionable. The issue is that they do not involve a revolution, and that is what you seem to want. All my suggestions involve being a more active member, and that also does not seem to be of interest to you. DPCers who participate more thrive here, and that is why you are not seeing them on this thread. They're mostly going about the business of enjoying photography with each other, which is, after all, what this site is about.

Poor DPC. Langdon won't feed it and Margaret is choking it to death.

LMAO! Love the ultimatum, if I was Langdon and you said that to me, I would show you that you are number 1. lol

As someone who seems to prefer provocative language, and "unsoftened" discourse, you are awfully quick to cry wolf. In the normal course of social exchange, people give each other their names. That's it. Sorry to hear about your death threats. As such, I'd advise against posting your SS# online.

What a crock. I've given my name...it's Spork.

What do you call you posting that because you believe I didn't post my personal information in my profile, that somehow I don't care about DPC? You may not of come right out and directly "spoken poorly" of me but you damn sure implied it.

For the most part, you're right; DPC is a great place. I don't think the sky is falling (or DPC is in imminent danger of self destruction). I do know that DPC could be better and a lot of things that could make it better were promised to the membership and never materialized. It's not even that those things won't be delivered that matters. It's that they weren't done and no mention of them was ever made from those who had made the promise. I have no doubt that Langdon fully intended to make those changes to DPC and that some manner of chaos has come into his life to prevent him from living up to the commitments he made to the membership.

This IS NOT a "let's sit and bitch" thread. (sorry folks) There are rules to this thread, and I'm hoping people will stick to these rules.

Up to this point, I've been ignoring the fact that DPC has hit the iceberg and has been sinking. But I'm tired of getting water up my nose, so it's time to start hitting the life boats. There may not have been enough life boats for everyone a couple of years ago, but there's less people now, and we have enough room. So let's launch the boats, and save who we can.

Let's figure out the basics of what we really need and here are the rules:

1. Only list complaints if they can be solved and they can be solved easily: If you're wanting a complete new look -- this is not your thread -- start your own.

2. Keep it civil. We want to try to fix it, not shut it down. Yes, I know we've tried this before, but I think it's worth trying one more time.

Dwindle away you say - and what is the underpinning issue?

A. The functionality of the site, though fit for purpose for ten years, has ceased to fulfil its current purpose.

B. Certain individuals are hell-bent on pursuing a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom and gloom that has a negative effect on the community that is claimed to be at risk through Langon's lack of action.

Answers on a postcard please.

My two penneth:

Sure, I'd like 950 X 850 image size and at 500kb.

Sure, I'd like to see monthly Expert challenges rather than weekly (with a month to create).

Sure, I'd like a customisable interface that allows me to look at images against a black background.

But:

The lack of the above does not stop me shooting, entering, commenting, voting or chatting. But, the undermining tone of some of our members (and Margaret, I admire your passion but I'm afraid you have a special talent for it) is much more likely to stop me wanting to do the entering, commenting, voting or chatting than any number of years of Langdon's inaction.

Communities like this live and die on the actions of their members, not on the evolution of the supporting infrastructure.

Which actually highlights the uselessness of this thread. It's all covered in the second post under 'site news' on the homepage - Follow the link to 'Get Satisfaction'

The problem isn't a lack of ideas, it's one of expectations.
