The Woodmans 8/10
Documentary about photographer Francesca Woodman and her family. She made beautiful photographs, but I think her parents weren't so great it was hard not to see that they were living off of the success of her work while also envious of it.

Dredd (3D) 7.5/10
Could have done with a bigger budget for CGI to make Mega City One more like the comic (IMHO). If you're a fan of Dredd (and 2000AD) you will be much happier with this adaptation over the rather unfortunate 1995 effort, (which is unrelated except in that they both try to portray the same character - this is not a remake however).
Overall, quite loud and violent, just like Dredd should be, looking forward to a sequel.

Hunger Games - 3/10 Horrible adaptation. Action scenes were boring, character development non existent, the actors don't work well together. Everything that that made the books good was excluded. What the characters did and how they acted were the same as the book, only the movie never gave insight to why they acted the way they did. For instance Haymitch goes from not helping the tributes to suddenly giving them advice and getting sponsors, the pivotal scene in the book where he realizes what he has was excluded. I realize its hard to explain it all but i feel as if they didn't show anything.
The plot of the book was not very interesting, it was the emotional struggles that made it great, all of that was missing from the movie, only the boring plot existed and even that was anticlimactic at the end.
i cant imagine anyone not reading the book and seeing this movie having any idea of the real gist of the story is.

Lawless, 9/14. Based on a true story around prohibition. Pretty bloody at times but great characters. Worth the watch if you're in to that sort of thing. |

Hunger Games - 3/10
I never read the book, but I agree with everything else Mike said below. And really, I had a hard time getting over the plot - yeah, I knew it somewhat before I watched, but I thought they would explain better how society (the non-tribute paying ones) became inhumane caricatures. |

The Cabin in the Woods- 7/10
At first glance this looks like another pop-horror movie. You know, a group of 30 year old actors playing High School Seniors as they all become brutally murdered one by one. But after watching I was pleasantly surprised it was actually something different. And when I mean different I mean from about as far left field as you can possibly get. Something that has never been done before. I can say I enjoyed the direction even though it was a bit cheesy and over the top. |

I agree, at a certain point it reminded me of 'cube', you know that one? |

Taken 2- 5/10
Everything this movie does, the first one did better. The plot is literally recycled from the first, except this time the wife is 'taken.' It all just felt very shallow and through the motions. The joy in a movie is the sense of unpredictability, this had none. You know exactly what is going to happen. It does take a few jabs at the first movie, and the lines used are pretty funny. |

Dark Shadows - 8/10
Much better than I thought it would be. Johnny Depp didn't do his typical weird character (Wonka, Mad Hatter, Jack Sparrow). Overall very enjoyable. I grew up watching the original TV show and was really into it when I was a very young kid. |

The Dark Knight Rises 6/10
I watched the movie ages ago but I'm still underwhelmed and disappointed. While I was sitting in the theatre I was re-directing the whole thing in my head.
I loved the last one to the point where I would give it a 10/10. This one was just not well scripted, had so many plot holes and sooo many missed opportunities. Heck even The Dark Knight was not perfect but I enjoyed it enough to ignore the issues. 'Robin' was as gary stu as it gets but at least Nolan got one female character right and that was catwoman. Oh, well. *Going back to re-reading the Dark Knight Returns*

The Avengers - 3/10
Riley (almost 7) wanted to watch a movie with my wife and I last night, so we settled on this one knowing it may be a little too intense for him. Well he got bored with it 40 minutes in and he left to go play. We were sort of stuck watching it because we paid to rent it. I don't know what I was expecting - I liked both Iron Man movies, didn't see Captain America, and didn't care for the Hulk (either version). This movie kinda played to the worst of the Hulk movie. Maybe I was just in a bad mood, but I thought this was very badly done. BEYOND over-the-top in it's corniness. I don't even know why I am giving it 3 - special effects maybe - meh. |

Impressively bad, but not bad in a funny way like Walk in the Clouds. This is like adventure movie people trying to make an artistic movie. |

Seriously ... ?? This 2007 thread still active? I think the last item below may inform our opinion about this thread ...
In 2007, "Big Girls Don't Cry" was in the top 10.
In 2007, John McCain announced his presidential candidacy.
Spiderman 3, Shrek 3 and Transformers were top grossing movies.
Judd Apto produced "Knocked Up."
Masacre at Virginia tech killed 32 people.
All Your Base Belong to Us was the top meme.
Michael Vik admitted funding a dog fighting ring.
ER was the most popular show on TV.
Miss Teen USA contestant Lauren Upton of South Carolina gave this tortured, confused answer to the question "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the US on a map. Why do you think this is?"
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children."
Just sayin'
E.T.A. ... "and World Peace."
