It could just be an early lens for an 8x10-type view camera, 14-16" focal length or so. I have seen brass ones that are similar. But on the enlarger they painted them black for obvious reasons.

On a separate note, that lens reminded me of a camera at a company where I worked from the late '70s to the mid '90s. We had what at the time was the largest reproduction camera in Wisconsin. It was used for reduction, and had a copy board that covered about five feet in height and eight feet in width. It could reproduce by transmission or reflection. It could produce up to at least a 20" x 30" output.

For elephants? ;-)

No - I don't think so. I think it is a portrait lens meant for people. Things haven't always been the way they are now ;-) The ring on the left looks like it could have been the mount for the wooden front plate of the camera.

Hitting the sack. If I should happen to win, someone else go.

Actually... It could be a cinema type projector lens.

This is on the right track. Bausch & Lomb made the whole apparatus, but not for cinema.
The apparatus had a trademark name that I'm asking for.
I snagged this one on eBay for $9.99, but shipping was $22.50.

You're closing in on it now.

I think I should turn it over to you Ken. That's pretty close.
It's an 18" focal length lens from a B&L "Balopticon" "Magic Lantern Projector".
It's not a very good camera lens, but it produces very interesting looking soft, low contrast photos.
Here it is with a homemade lens tube. The focus knob still works great. I just have to hold the camera body against the back end of the tube, since I haven't put a mount there yet.

And, a shot straight into the sunset over water.

The opposite direction, just after sunset, and not edited.

Nope... Too early for snow. As for posting, I had to pass it over a few back, so I'd earned one anyway :-)

No, it's not the birthday present; she's being funny. Nor is it a chia pet. Off to bed now; I'll check back in the ayem :-)

is it espresso granita?

Cut slab stone, polished. Probably falsely sold as "granite"
