An ibis on a piling along the local river.
This was shot for the "Crazy Glass" side challenge, using a 450mm (18") Bausch & Lomb lens a, survivor from an earlier era of photographic technology.
I found it on eBay, and built a pvc lens tube for it. It has no camera mount on it yet, so this was done by just holding the camera on the end of the lens tube by hand, with the lens clamped on a tripod with a screw type hose clamp.
There is no aperture, so it shoots wide open, which is about f5.6 or so.
The images from it have a sort of nostalgic look, and are very low contrast when shooting directly into the light, as this image was.
Processing for this was; Levels, Brightness, Contrast, Highlights/Shadows. It's not cropped. Range was about 1/4 mile.
A larger version, and a couple of shots of the lens are on my Fb page here: W T Fb image.
"right click" on the left edge of the first photo to go to a couple of shots of the lens and the setup used with it.

Thanks for making it accessible. The larger view is great. There almost seems to be an Xray effect like when you hold your hand up to intense light.

Yeah, I like it. Reminds me of film that gets partially exposed to amber light. (Can't FB at work.)

Looks fiery and soft at the same time. Facebook wouldn't let me look.
