So Johanna, did you see the latest challenge.

Can you still enter it, you are still away aren't you?

If you mean the Normal Rockwell challenge, I don't think I can pull it off out here. I'll keep my eye open, but staging an image is impossible.

In the meantime, more posts over at the blog.

I did? Sheesh, if so, it was lifetimes ago....

In the meantime, in the present (or so), catch up on my travels, if you dare... And if you do, would love to hear from you :-)

HI SHEZ, NEVER DID MAKE IT THROUGH TO YOUR PART OF QUEENSLAND, ALTHOUGH WE DID DRIVE THROUGH THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF IT ON OUR WAY BACK TO MELB. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE MET YOU BUT TIME WAS NOT ON OUR SIDE.

Still pp'ing images and posts from the trip, even though I'm safely home. Or is that giving too much away...

Hi everyone,
I'm back, and I finally finished writing and processing the remaining entries, if you'd like to see how it all turned out :-)

Thanks for visiting!

Hi Johanna,

Just read the latest entries. I was amused to hear that not that long after you left the outback you went through Griffith because about 10 years ago my niece and her husband who are both teachers agreed to be assigned to teach in a remote area of NSW for 4 years, and ended up being assigned there. That stood them in good stead for later being appointed to a school in the area they wanted to settle in, which is near Byron Bay. Seems like a good system, except for being given hardly any notice about where you have been assigned to before school starts (at least that's what it seemed like at the time, from this distance!!).

Thanks for writing about your experiences. I've visited Australia 5 or 6 times but never been to the outback.

Well done Johanna, that was a mammoth trip by any standard. (edit for grammar)

That's too funny, Penny! I'm certain that today's Griffith bears no resemblance to the one they taught in :-)

John, yes, mammoth is a good word for it. Oddly, my favorite part WAS the most remote.

I'm glad folks enjoyed the adventure vicariously.

I'm sheltering in my bed in central Manchester, although at least we don't have the big spiders to shelter from.

Great journal and fantastic images.

I too was in Australia and had the great pleasure of spending the month of September visiting with my dear friends Beetle and her husband plamprec.

In addition to visiting a variety of places such as the Carnarvon Gorge, the Bunyan Mountaines, and enjoying a fantastic whale watching excursion at Hervey Bay, I had the added treat of meeting our very own Judi who arranged for a GTG in Emerald, and where we met her husband Damian ane fellow DPCers Brat, PamB, crafty, and Wildcat.

Judging by your journal entries and photos, it would seem that you too had a fantastic time in the Land Down Under.

Indeed, Ray, it was. For the longest time I was trying to work out a way to meet up with Judi and the Emerald gang as well, but it just wasn't possible. Perhaps our NEXT drive around the Australian "island"... ALMOST met Roz as well, but didn't work out either.

Johanna, I really enjoyed following the blog. It brought back wonderful memories of when I did a camping trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs to Uluru and back.

CAMPING, Heather? I know we were supposed to do so as well, but wow, in retrospect I don't know how I would have fared in that part of the country... Glad you enjoyed the recall :-)
