Sure you can -- people (especially in the entertainment biz and political consultants) do all the time ... this is something posted by a publicity-hungry entertainment figure -- can you not entertain the possibility that this missive (apparently credited to "Dragonfly" and not Snoop himself) contains a significant element of sarcasm and deliberately provocative hyperbole?

President Eisenhower might have taken heart from a visit to Lake Woebegone, where all the children are above average. of course, the poor guy would be excommunicated by today's Republicans ...

You clearly expect much better decisions from the general populace than I do.

Of course I can absolutely appreciate that this was probably about 90% satire. I also appreciate that it's being delivered to an audience that is likely to be composed of a significant number of persons who aren't able to effectively recognize satire.

My point isn't even about the stupid fricken list. It's about the stupidity of your average voter, and how that gives me very little hope for our country.

Can you not see what is right in front of your eyes? It's a sham, and the entire election cycle is nothing more than a silly dog and pony show, for the benefit of the aforementioned average voter, and in truth the actual direction of the government won't change as long as we continue forward with the two party system... My greatest fear is that the roots of this problem are now run so deeply that fixing the problem may be impossible.

Obama has got to be one of the worst, if not THE worst, presidents in history. I understand those running will say what they "plan" to do to fix the economy and such...
But Obama took this to a whole new level... he's definitely a master manipulator!
my HOPE is that people who so desperately wanted the CHANGE he spoke about, CHANGED their mind about who they will vote for ome this election time.

And since this is in rant, I will say it, because I know its partially true... a BIG reason why Obama was voted for was because of racial reasons. People wanted to prove that the world is changing, that there isn't the same hatred there was hundreds of years ago, that equality does exist in the USA.
The fact of the matter is... I wouldn't care if a person was green with pink polka dots and yellow stripes. Don't vote someone in to try and prove your racial stance... vote them in because they are the best (wo)man for the job!

In the end a fuck up is a fuck up, and how you ended up there doesn't really matter.

yes, i agree we need to start reversing the trend. unfortunately it will take a more intelligent voter pool to do that.

Which was my original question...

How do we do that without causing riots? The unwashed masses will be displeased.

Are you serious? OK, not over-serious, nobody wants that. The holy trinity of enlightenment for bringing the unwashed and/or unaware into line so they can vote for their own good and form the basis of a proper democracy is education, education and education. Admitedly it's not that simple - as important as reading, riting and rithmetic are to the formation of functional citizens, the real benefit of schooling for society as a whole is socialisation. That means (my interpretation here) spending your schooldays alongside people your mum and dad
don't know and it means state schools and that means government. Live with it.

IMO Cory, you're so far off the deep end it is amazing that you think ANYone could possibly take you seriously. You have reached Glenn Beck levels of histrionics here.

Poking a little pointed fun. Referring to a group of your fellow citizens as "unwashed masses" is ridiculously derogatory. It dilutes your point to use rhetoric like that, it makes you look jingoistic, just as Romney's 47% statement did for him.

When you put up a fence limiting the rights of others, don't be too shocked if you end up on the wrong side of the fence. Once power consolidates, it generally ends up on the hands of a single person. Once "those people" are disenfranchised, it won't be long until "the right people " lose theirs.

I really hope the reason Obama got elected is because McCain choosing Palin as a running mate was about the absolute worst choice in the history of choosing VPs. The woman's an idiot, a complete imbecile. All SNL had to do for skits was reiterate, verbatim, interviews and they became comedy.

I've been to a good number of countries in my short lifetime and the US is the country with the most obvious racism (I haven't been anywhere in Africa yet, so I may be a little skewed). It's truly astounding. Georgia scared the shit out me. Louisiana and Alabama were close seconds.

Electing a woman in the US would be a big thing. Truly astounding as almost every other first world country has elected one, many moons ago.

Oh, I don't vote... I actually realize that I have no business doing so, since I don't know enough to make a well informed decision, and from what I can see there isn't a good choice.

I'm quite willing to be on the other side of that line.

Now, are you telling me you actually think elections are awesome and work to the benefit of our country as currently structured?

Wouldn't it be neat if you could actually make your choice based on their ability to run the country, instead of choosing the leader based upon how progressive it makes us look?

Yeah, vote for him he's black, vote for her she's female, etc.. wouldn't it be better to vote for someone because they are competent?

I've noticed that President/Senator/Representative are about the only Federal jobs for which you don't need to pass a Civil Service qualifications exam ...

But Cory, regardless of the fact that I pretty much completely disagree with you about pretty much everything....you actually read and pay attention to what's going on around you. If that doesn't make you qualified to vote in a democracy, who would you consider to be qualified?

I'm going to go completely and absolutely off the topic of this thread for one minute. I spent spring of 2011 in China. Regardless of what we hear about the booming Chinese economy, the Chinese taking our jobs and such, China is a poorly run place. The vast, vast majority of people are still living at subsistence level, mostly in jobs that are creating vast wealth for a few government officials and business tycoons, while the workers just barely survive. 17 of the 20 most polluted cities in the country are in China. The food is unsafe. The water is undrinkable. A friend was nearly killed by an unsafe medicine she was given when she went to the doctor with bronchitis she got from breathing the pollution. I could write an entire book on poor governance, using examples of things I saw there.

I realized while I was there that many of the laws and protections we have that the Chinese don't are because we live in a democracy, and we, after a fashion, hold our leaders accountable. Things like the Clean Water Act and Social Security are there because the voters wanted to be able to drink clean water, and wanted to keep the elderly out of poverty. The pendulum swings back and forth regarding what the voters think they want, and after seeing the disaster that is China, I am very discouraged at attempts to gut our social safety net, food safety and environmental regulations, because I saw where that can lead. But I also realize that eventually, the pendulum will swing the other way.

You are correct in stating that Palin was a complete idiot. I don't even know how the woman gets herself dressed in the morning, let alone made it to Governor of Alaska.
Though, I don't see how the US could have voted for Hillary Clinton either.
Obama = idiot
Clinton (both of them) = idiot
Palin = idiot. Though, McCain could have done a much better job than Obama, having Palin as a running mate or not.

Guess america didn't have much of a choice.

That would make the most sense. Vote based on COMPETENCE, not based on the ability to "look good".
But, that's what Affirmative Action/Racism/Equal Opportunity rights have done to this country. (go ahead people, read into it what you will)

You know, you don't get to be a Rhodes Scholar or pass the bar exam by being an idiot -- and I find this kind of loose name-calling pretty insulting and ineffective in advancing your arguments.

If you had to wager on Bill Clinton or George Bush in a game of Jeopardy (either the TV version or in the White House Situation Room), do you really thing W is smarter than Bill? I mean, it's not like the guy was a "nucular" scientist or anything ...

Now, this doesn't mean smart people can't do idiotic things, but if you're going to call people names, remember one of the fundamental lessons we learned as kids, it takes one to know one (feel free to use this as a challenge entry this week).

Ann, unless I spend a good solid 10 hours per candidate, really getting to know them, studying voting history, policies, connections to business, potential conflicts of interest, etc, there's no way I'd feel comfortable having an opinion, as without that research I'm going off gut-instict, prejudice, and simply not working from facts. That's pretty unacceptable to me.

Frankly, 10 hours per candidate equals out to hundreds of hours per election, and given the actual value of my vote, I realize that I'm much better off doing something else with my time.

Why people think they're doing something good when their ignorant asses vote is really beyond me. They're screwing us all, and are too dumb to realize it.

I would much rather take Bush over Clinton, any day of the week.
Clinton DESTROYED our military... which is my main reason for hating him so passionatley.
These men gave their lives, they fought for their country... for what? to be treated like crap?
my husband was in when Clinton was in office. He was infantry. What happened? They (the government... clinton's bright idea) cut back on the military budget. So rather than getting the PROPER nutrition supply, my husband got to eat crawdads/crawfish out of the creeks. Rather than being able to get new boots when his old ones wore through the soles, he had to wear those old ones... roadmarching miles upon miles... through the mud, the creeks, the hills... with his feet bleeding through them.
Don't tell me Clinton was a good president, or imply I'm wrong for calling him a name.
I'm glad to see him gone...
now, if we could get this current IDIOT out of the office...

Ever hear of Navajo-preference hiring? It's a fantastically racist tool that is widely utilized in NW New Mexico. Essentially, if there are two applicants, one is native, one is not, the job will almost always go to the native (unless there is some huge deficiency).. This isn't an unspoken policy, or something of that sort... No, it's a law that everyone seems to be quite proud of.
