otherwise we need to guess whether its going to be validated or not. |
What's funny is that you proved that the photo was illegal in this post. You pointed out that the typical description of the original is a banana with a prop. And the typical description of the edited photo is a banana without a prop. This makes it clear that the edited photo changes a typical voters description of the photo. I don't see any guesswork here. |

if the props were less pronominent it would have gotten validated.
my argument is that distinguishing their prominence is the wrong way to go about it. using props at all to create an image (so long as one has to remove them in post) should either be allowed or not, since the use of prop, no matter how large or small "changes the typical voters description of the photo" in every case. i just think its wrong to DQ this entry because the sticks he used were "too big", whereas if they used smaller sticks it may have been fine.

Maybe the stick isn't the issue. maybe it's the fingers holding the stick in the bottom left corner. I do like the shot and it's no fun getting a ribbon from someone else's DQ. One thing is for sure though. mqnaufal has a great attitude towards this whole process. |

Hey, just a quick thought here...
Did anyone notice the wonderful rapidity of the decision? I just want to thank the SC for moving quicker on these lately, and giving the front page time to the deserving folks who move up as a result of these DQ's.
Got to give credit where it's due, and the SC seems to have really taken up some slack here, thanks SC!
..
And again, all the respect in the world to mqnaufal, what a wonderful sport! |

Mmmm... We'e have witnessed the same discussion many a times without producing any fruitful end. Hope will be the same this time too. Indeed what I understood so far is, there is a thin line between what to remove what not to. So I'll stay confused forever unless there's a clear change/narration in the Adv editing rule. :)
By the way, this shot is not at all my kinda photography. I just wanted to give a shot. Learned some tricks during the shoot and now (in this thread). Thanks folks for the lovely support and knowledge-sharing mentality. This is a great place to learn.
Cheers. |

Actually I submitted my original along with my entry itself. If they validated during the voting period I'd have not been disappointed by loosing my first ribbon. :) |

Yeah, I cropped it straightaway in RAW editor itself. |

Ahh, true enough - but on the other hand, at least you got to find out that you had a ribbon winning shot before it was DQ'd. ;) |

Hahahaha. Even I wasn't happy with the shot I submitted here. Check this tweaked one //www.mqnaufal.com/Photography/View-only-photos/Misc/19394153_H8q5cM#!i=2113220819&k=654MD7m&lb=1&s=A here. This is how I wanted actually. :)

I don't know... it's obvious that the copyright phrase is what's holding the banana in that shot...

Pre-submitted originals are not automatically checked during the voting, only if there is a validation request submitted, though I suppose you could have asked yourself.
A better plan, anytime you have something like this, where you are not sure whether it conforms to the rules or not, is to submit a ticket with the Before/After versions and an explanation, and get an *informal opinion* from one or more SC members (especially if you can do this a couple of days ahead of the deadline).
We cannot actually "pre-validate" an image ahead of time, since not everyone will have seen it, and it could be further edited before submission, but you can usually get a good enough idea to know if it likely to be a DQ or not. |

I like here much better than 500px. Kind of a strange system that doesn't make a lot of sense, imo. Plus, I got lots of comments, but after awhile, you got sick of "cool!", "awesome!", "I like it!". They were just the same comments over and over. DPC is much better. :)

Well we'll have the REAL striped shirt SC to make those calls now that the strike is over.

if the billionares that run the NFL can see their market is unhappy maybe there is hope that Langdon will get off his butt and make the changes to improve this place. |
