I've seen & and few other entries got passed thru after cloning out the thread or whatever.

My question here is whats the thread/stick size should be (or allowed to remove)? If I know the answer will be useful in upcoming submissions.

Very good point. I'm sorry about what happened...

Am I the only one who thinks he might've still won with the stick in it? ...maybe not. Voters were awed by the floating slices. :)

Sorry about the DQ, MQ.

Pre-submitted originals are not automatically checked during the voting, only if there is a validation request submitted, though I suppose you could have asked yourself.

A better plan, anytime you have something like this, where you are not sure whether it conforms to the rules or not, is to submit a ticket with the Before/After versions and an explanation, and get an *informal opinion* from one or more SC members (especially if you can do this a couple of days ahead of the deadline).

We cannot actually "pre-validate" an image ahead of time, since not everyone will have seen it, and it could be further edited before submission, but you can usually get a good enough idea to know if it likely to be a DQ or not.

Then maybe the results shouldn't be posted until after you validate the ribbon winners that you want to validate? Must be disappointing...

All placements 1st through 5th are validated. Sometimes validation takes a long time, for a variety of reasons, and the validation for one photo could hold up the posting of all others. It's a bit hard no matter how you do it. If you ever try to pre-submit, make sure you have a backup plan. Both because you should be ready for the idea to be deemed illegal and also for the possibility that you won't ever get a response before entry ends.

Thanks for the answer... Yup it seems like a long process to notice the stick in a banana. Definitely.

The long process comes in when people need to recover data off of an SD card because they rotated the image in widows picture viewer and ruined the EXIF data..

For the first round of messages it's a few days at least, then another few days for the person to figure out how to do data recovery, then another few days for SC to get back to doing the validation, and if there was a DQ, about six months for Langdon to reinstate the ribbon and shift things around..

Thank you for clarifying everything even more lol. Yup Langdon can take forever :)

Amazing how small the feature is in this photo and it gets DQed but when we had the big discussion about removing the people from the photo it was considered by the SC as a minor distraction...... I'll never understand the inconsistent the rulings are.

Matt

I also would bet as a percentage that the wires or fishing string taken out of some of the photos that have been validated in the past were more than what was removed here.

Maybe it's something Langdon can look into putting up??

See.. I'd like to "like" last two posts again but I can't

I know of one from a few years back where a number of large cranes and other elements were removed from a photo to make it more pleasing. I've seen the original and the elements are very apparent in the thumbnail.. Passed validation. Yet again inconsistency from SC.

why you still discussing this, isnt going to change it,

he should have done it like the 4th place did and it would be null and void discussion, the rules make you think more about gettingit right in camera not being lazy and fixing it afterwards which helps make you a better photographer

sc are volunteers they arent paid remember

Can I "like" this?

On a serious note... that's exactly right. It's easier to fix things in photo editing... harder to set it up and get it "right" from the camera.

it was advanced editing, isnt that what the basic and minimal rulesets are supposedly for?

Hey,I'm away on vacation ATm, I thought this might happen, and bc I am 5th now, I sent them my original before I left, and now I get a message I need to submit my original when they should already have it. So I PM salvert and Neil, if they see this, please read your PM's, thankfully I put it in my workshop before I left so I gave them the image id number, and all should be ok, I hope.

Anyway all should be legal with what I did, If i get DQ bc I am away that would be sour.

I hope they read their Pm's, bc I can't send it through the ticket way, bc I am on a internet kiosk, didnt bring my own comp, with me, and too hard to do on my phone.

It looks like Manic found the one in your Workshop, and the other one seems to be there as well. It may well be that the Fifth-place Auto-request doesn't "know" if you've already uploaded an original earlier.

I'm looking at the thumbnail right now. No cranes are visible.

Ok thanks hope you can deal with it through the workshop entry bc I wont be accesing a comp until maybe Sunday, I dont really need this while I am away, thanks, and cant really do much on my phone,it's way to hard with all those little bitty screens.

It's on my entry as well now.

Thanks.

Look more closely - it's fairly obvious...

No, it's a "Sam Hill Crane" - as in "What in Sam Hill just flew across my pic?!!" *tongue-sticking-out face*
