I think it may be a bit more Photoshop oriented. |

The ad for Einstein lights in my Shutterbug magazine tells me it's a composite created in Photoshop. For that photo of angels wings, they actually threw buckets of water at or behind the model.

That's what I was thinking.
A silver Angel link.
The strobist water angel link.

I see she's wearing that new anti-gravity bra. The only thing that would work with a dress like that. |

When you're that hot, it's important to wear something flame resistant. |

Ok -- I want better search options in forums!!
Someone posted a link awhile ago to a bunch of water dresses that were completely awesome, and it described in more detail how it was done.
I can't find it!!

Looks like beautifully done PhotoChop to me :-) Check out Worth1K. There's probably a tutorial up on there on how to do it, or something very close. |

According to the links being posted, most of it's done in-camera, with water being thrown at the model. The "water angel" archetype is a montage of two images, with throws from left and right. From the Strobist article:

Jarek shot the photos in a darkened room, to keep the ambient from undoing all of the effort he had spent to avoid ghosting the water droplets with the flashes.
The splashes in the final image are surprisingly close to having been done in-camera. He tweaked the feathered edges with the appropriately named "Liquify filter" in Photoshop, but that's about it.
"Nothing is painted in Photoshop," he insists. "It is all photographs."
"If you can throw something very carefully," he said, "it is better to do that and work two hours more on the set rather than working in post production. Because you can always spot the fake."
All of the images were shot in the same studio setting, with the same lighting. So it was "pretty basic" to just layer them on top of each other in post, he noted. |

My two cents: photoshop extended, which has a 3D possibility.
Only that ... effects or not, the picture looks so kitschy to me that all the technical virtuosity pales.
So much for 1x choices. Perhaps it will be useful everywhere, to have the special effects shots in a separate group from artistic photography.
Ah, the same can of worms ready to burst.

The link for which I was looking explained the whole process -- that basically when you throw water at something, it wraps around that something. So dress shots, etc, are created by throwing water at many different angles and then putting it together in photoshop. Someone created a forum with the link, but I can't seem to find it. :(
