The Inexplicable War on Lemonade Stands
When did we become such a dour, nitpicking people, anyway? Sheesh... |

Sad. I thought it was good to teach children about work and entrepreneurship. It's ok for kids to see people get food stamps for nothing but if you try and work for anything you get slapped. Sigh. |

Tax 'em all until they can't get any profits and shut their stands down to go on government benefits! Yes! |

Ever since the 1 % gained so much power?

I don't get involved in politics at all but the whole 99%/1% thing just cracks me up, like there has ever been a time in history where there wasn't a 1% |

Well, there's always been a 1%, of course, but there hasn't always been such a concentration of assets in that 1% as there is now. I'm sure, historically, there's been times and places where it was even worse (feudal Europe?) but at least in the USA, in the last 75 years or so, this is as far outside the envelope as we've ever been, wealth-distribution wise...

Uh, the last time was in early 1929, and we know how that turned out ...
I'm trying to figure out Republican economic logic:
"It's time for Obama to quit blaming the previous administration for the economic mess he created ..." and to reinstitute the policies which created that disaster in the first place. |

1929 + 75 = 2004, check :-) I did have that in mind... |

I was thinking more about this.....I could have sworn I heard about laws that protected lemonade stands like that from the needs for permits. Maybe it was just talk...but I do remember something.... |

I'm wondering how the Hope and Change has worked out... regardless of what he was handed. I know it wasn't good when he got it, but GOLLY! It's much worse now.
So much more unemployment... more on government handouts...
What has he changed for the better? What Hope can we have that another four years won't just sink us further down than we've gone lately?
But, this thread is actually about little kids' lemonade stands.
Does anyone buy a cup of lemonade from a roadside stand and think that it's been authorized/inspected by the government "experts"? No.
Do they buy it to support their community through taxes? No.
Do they buy it because they want to inspire that cute little kid with buck teeth to go ... on.. and do something more? That there is so much that can be accomplished in this world? Yes.
Nobody DRINKS that nasty mess!
It's a quarter to inspire someone.
Leave the little kids alone to live their dreams. No one is being forced to buy that crap (lol!)... and the taxes on it would... probably equate to... uhhh... ten cents? I dunno. But, it's certainly not worth crushing some little kids' idea of what he/she can do in this world.

If there WERE such a law, surely it'd be local? So it would be in effect in some places and not in others... |

Hey, the only places remotely close to me are lemonade friendly! :)
I'll see them every now and then here... almost always make a point to stop if I have cash on me. Interesting to look at the distribution on the map as compared to the culture of the regions. Some of the shutdowns sound like they are a bit exaggerated, in that they don't sound like kids with a little stand and a sign. One of them was a family that took part in a city festival of sorts, which I understand why they'd be more anal on the side of permits etc. for.
