No one loves DQ's, especially when we think there's nothing wrong in one of our images.

I got a bitter DQ in the Lego challenge... I was really disappointed (I had got my first blue) but I accepted it. IMO Site Council always tries to do his best.

Perhaps in Worth1000 they don't do the same. This is a message they sent to me a couple of days ago:

Hi alexkc,
Your entry,'Top of the world' in the 'House in the Shadows' contest has been disqualified for the following reason(s):

Your entry contains material that you didn't have the legal right to use. It's your responsibility to determine if your source images are copyrighted, and you must ask for the permission of the copyright holder to use the image BEFORE submitting it to a contest. You must post a copyright release statement in your Author's Comments. (e.g. "I have permission to use this copyrighted image")

My submission was this one:

My DPC entry:

Not a difficult find, on 500px my nickname is alexkc, exactly the same of my Worth1000 account.

I sent them a message a couple of days ago but they didn't answer...

Lemme make sure I have this straight... they DQ'd you when they found your source image on DPC or 500px, and thought it was someone else that you had stolen an image from? Sheesh!

Do have original photos of the balloon and structure as well?

The structure was the theme of the contest (people had to use it) and the balloon was a stock photo. But they specified I used the image they found on 500px (my photo)

Ahh, I see. Well, they certainly should reconsider the DQ and let your image stand. Very cool BTW.

Thank you.

Unfortunately they DQ'd me before the beginning... it was late at night here in Italy so I didn't have the chance to tell them the image was mine :)

That's hilarious. Apparently it's important to include a release in your notes releasing yourself to use your own image in their challenges?

That's not written in the rules, but next time I'll do it.

That IS funny, and also a bit reassuring that they check for that sort of thing, even if they're a bit retarded about what they find!

are you sure they are talking about the landscape and not the balloons? As a stock photographer I would want a website like that to double check entries and make sure they have purchased the stock photos before using them in a challenge. Not that I am saying you stole the balloon photo, but many people do and think it is okay. If this is the case I am glad they check images and DQ them if it is not their own. Either way sorry about the DQ it was a great image.

They specifically referenced his image, as hosted at 500px, in the DQ notice he posted in the OP.

Yes, that's the point. In any case the balloon photo was a free stock image. I am extremely careful about it :)

bummer, but whilst you know it is your image (as do we) maybe if you had followed the 'rule' below this wouldn't have happened?

You must post a copyright release statement in your Author's Comments. (e.g. "I have permission to use this copyrighted image")

Seem a bit silly but they obviously didn't even take note of the name of the photographer at 500.

Ho hum and ftr I prefer the original :)

What a strange looking house. No wonder it was a challenge to include it in your picture!

With the way they'd stated their rule, one would think they would confer with you before just DQ'ing your entry - who would think they needed permission to use their own work.

Ouch, that sucks! I had the opposite problem in 2006.

I've got to wonder how they actually found your source image. Is there a search engine that finds "similar" looking pictures?

I searched on Google and it worked... probably they have done the same thing.
