whatever you do, dont leave vague one word comments! :)
As for voting, there are suggested rules but people just do what they like.

like honorificabilitudinitatibus?

MadMordegon> I probably would ask you the question - why does this signify a sudden good discovery? And then rate it accordingly. But what do I know, I'm just a newbie.

it dosnt. but i thought it was a good pic and with a catchy title maybe could have "passed" for serendipity :)

Here's the way I see it: the challenge was to TAKE A PICTURE of something that represented Ser.. not to TITLE a random picture as Ser.. So for most of the shots I try to not even look at the title and try to guess what the photographer was trying to say. Some pictures w/out titles are just nice pictures, but they don't meet the challenge, IMHO.

I have to agree with you. However in another thread someone said they are handing out a LOT of 10's. I agree the photos are very nice, but represent serendipity? I don't know.

Flame on!
-are you Torch? hehe
to start...wasn't a big thrill for some boys in the past, to see the ankle of a woman. any skin showing then was tasteless. It is all a point of view, to me. Maybe if the poo was in Serendipity now, and had corn in it and they had not eaten corn...does that not fit the challenge? that is the whole idea. everyones morals, ideas, and sense of humors are different. I heard something good on Rush Limbaugh today (god forbid). he said it is YOUR problem if YOU are offended by something.
Someone made a buttload of money off of elephant crap if I remember right

I don't mind losing out to pictures that are really better than mine (as are the bulk of the photos I've seen on this site), but if I wind up losing to a pile of excrement or the equally tasteless entries this week, I'm going to really need therapy!

Not necessarily... the comment may have been made at the time that someone else's vote showed up. Votes don't count (and will not impact your score) until the voter has voted on 20%.

The comment may have been entered (much) later then the score, so you can't be sure what they gave you. I almost always comment much later, to avoid being rude :-)

I thought Serendipity was about chance encounters, finding unexpected treasures and the like. I didn't enter because I didn't have that experience this week...rarely do for that matter. IMHO there are too many "set-up" shots. I think we will see some record low scores this week.

What exactly is wrong with "set-up" ,the challange clearly stated "Create an image that represents Serendipity" note the word "Create" and "represents"

Yeah. That's what it says. I guess if it's not "hit u in the face" setup it's not so bad.

You find corn in your poo when you didn't eat corn to be a "fortunate accident"? I'm starting to worry.... ;)

So with a 5.3 I still have a chance at a high ranking? Cool. :)

perhaps try voting this way...first pic gets a 1. nest a 2. then on to 10. then 9, 8, 7. sorta random. mroe fair than all 1s or 10s. LOL

I have yet to look or vote...my entry, a weak interpretaion of a good idea of serendipity is a bit below 5. fair, and perhaps more than i deserve. I put a border on it to assure a lower score. LOL A bright wide contrasting color border was avoided as i didn't want too many comments LOL

I won't describe the two I've already come across in Serendipity so as to preserve their anonymity (not that they deserve it, but because the admins will have MY head for doing so). Go ahead, flame me for being old fashioned or whatever, but I just don't see the point of submitting truly tasteless images. (And yes, I know tasteless is subjective. I looked through the submissions and couldn't figure out which ones you were referring to. Maybe you can be less oblique after the challenge.
