3.8 voting average - that's pretty harsh for a newb

It's fine. Vote the way you see fit and ignore everyone else.

We seem to have a lot of new folks who aren't easily impressed. You are certainly welcome to vote as you see fit, though. Might be interesting sometime to see the actual votes of someone with such an average. Maybe your scale is just lower for a shot you like as well as I do (I know some people like to leave more room at the top), or maybe you just think most entries here are poor.

Guess i was just bitter at being disqualified. No, but jokes apart im guessing the only reason it shows so low is coz i havent voted more than 25% on the other challenges. Wl get working on that right away |

My highest vote on the abstract challenge was an 8 and i rated quite a few 6's.. But i guess i also voted some entries fairly low

So, you're cherry picking who to low vote? I don't understand what you're saying here. |

All that im saying is that my average vote cast number is not an accurate reflection since i have just rated 1 of the challenges so far while on the other challenges i havent voted yet or have voted less than 20% entries and hence my vote isnt being counted for those challenges |

Actually, I completely agree with this - as long as we don't see you in the forums bitching about your low scores. Everyone has their own criteria - it's just not fair to vote one way and expect everyone else to follow something different for YOUR images.
Then again, you know what they say about opinions - and mine is just as stinky as everyone else's.
Probably best to stick to CS's advice and just ignore everyone else. Me included. |

I haven't yet.

Are you implying people should vote my images according to my methodology, but revert for every other image? If that's the case, then I have a huge issue with this statement. The voting system works only if every voter is consistent across all images. Selectively changing their votes because of the underlying photographer, and not the image, no longer makes the voting system fair.

I don't think that knikki meant to literally vote a specific person's images down. I think what was meant was simply if one's personal voting criteria leads to low scores given (say for example, one never gives more than a 6), then don't gripe or be disappointed if one's own image scores are never above 6. |

I wasn't sure. It could be interpreted either way. I don't care about my average until after voting is finished because only the ranking matters. Anyways, no harm no foul. Back to the scores.

No, I actually agree with you - I do think people need to vote according to their criteria and thoughts - if you're a 3-4 voter consistently, that's cool. Just don't vote 3's and 4's and then get bent out of shape about people voting 3's and 4's on YOUR image. Not accusing anyone - just saying, let's not make it a double standard.
As far as selectively changing anyone's votes....huh? You lost me there. I'm starting to learn people's styles, but not enough to cherry pick anything - and even then, why would I? The challenge is the challenge - it's a photo contest, not a popularity contest. I take sincere comfort in this knowledge.
I do like the varying opinions in the forums - it's taught me to look at things differently, and to appreciate different viewpoints and photos. I think my voting also reflects that growth and enlightenment. At least, I hope so.
Yes - back to the scores - I LOVED voting on this challenge. Images were awesome. Highest voting average (for me) to date. I found beauty in many of them - and am still commenting!

You have commented on 7 images (5%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.7879.

No movement in this thread for a while. That's understandable, as I've only had a few votes in the past couple of days, and people are voting elsewhere. And I don't mind, as my score is still a personal best. I'm talking 7.4 here. ;-) |

Still no comments on mine... strange for an image with a decent score (6.16). |

I have a not too great score but 6 comments - weird. :-/
I wonder if we'll hit 100 votes by rollover? Seems people don't like this challenge much, including my image. :-).
I have more votes on my Sherpet entry and there's still 2 days of voting left.
