And Christophe won't be allowed to enter, to give the rest of us a fair chance ;-) |

And it's Don with the suggestion..... :)
Actually, that's not too surprising, given that his is probably the only highly popular style that appeals to Don.
Good suggestion, and this should/could be a really fun challenge! |

I think you've got a shot at it, Richard. :-) |

Yes please... But there sort of has to be a "theme" to it.
Mainly because he does all of his shots so close to the "theme" at hand that there really wouldn't be much of a starting point to the people entering it. (I have read that sentence about five times now and I don't know how to make it better lol)
I hope that makes sense. |

no.
have we run out of real challenge ideas? im surprised Don is suggesting this, i hope its a joke as he seems to be with me in panning the less than stellar challenge ideas lately.
you have the opportunity to attempt Gyaban's style in every expert challenge. besides i think we need much more practice with expert editing to even due this topic justice.

I would be okay with this so long as there is a tutorial thread posted with the idea of learning some of these techniques... Obviously you couldn't post your entry, but you could post a sample and see if someone knows how to achieve the effect you're looking for... And of course, one month would be nice because many of us would be learning as we go. |

I really don't want to learn that much about Photoshop |

I have mixed emotion about this.
Mostly all respect Christophe and his work,
although a small group it may be,
that can match his post processing prowess(say that 3x fast!)
even fewer can match his creativity- or at least have the ability to translate it to a finished work.
All that said,
why do we have "in the style of" challenges?
to try to closely approximate someone's work?
to mindlessly echo a shot out of someone's catalog back at them?
NO, I see it as an honor, a celebration, a chance to be righteously uncomfortable
with the technique and the artistic sense of the individual.
enough so to challenge you- thats what it is about, right?
And for those of you that don't like tribute challenges-
there are 20 other challenges per month,
don't enter the tribute challenges- its not going to kill you.
Green Macro?
I'd rather look at 35 people's fumbling attempts at Gyaban
than hundreds of ultra close up bugs and leaves-
Just an opinion, not a judgment.

In my entry I would have a gradient in my background lighting. |

Everyone, please remember some basics: Christophe has the drive and desire to do what he does, and manages to balance it with work and family. What he's done in the span of what, 3 years? is nothing short of staggering.
But if he can be disciplined enough to sit down and study and practice super-amazing PS skills, then all of us are capable of that.
In my previous post I put up a link to a site with simply mind-boggling images on it, yet the walk-through tutorials are written in a straightforward manner. So even if it takes us a month to do this challenge, so be it!
