I think the joke is on the viewer in the 3rd place shot. I do hope the photographer posts their original for you all to see... as it WAS a window dragged out to the beach! lol VERY clever in my book. So, as I said in another thread...things are not always what they seem, and something that seems fake could certainly be real. We validated that shot early on in the race.

Actually, there are rocks there.
It was low tide and rock pools always form there.
When I get to work I will post the original shot.

Sorry to cause such consternation and I apologise for the rocks but I still have 1 question; is a windowframe without glass still a window ? BTW , I do appreciate your ardor & imagination in taking this shot , anyone watchig had to be wondering ! LOL .I felt Motorcycleboi had a legitimate concern & was wondering what the community's take was on this .Congrats !

What the heck is pretzel logic?

An album by Steely Dan. :) (I'm feeling old all of a sudden, for some reason...)

If it makes you feel any better...you're not alone, this week, there were lots of 'wrong date set' people.

If the submittor could show a camera purchase receipt showing delivery after March 1, then it would be completely impossible for the date to be outside the challenge (I don't think anyone's figured out how to submit one taken AFTER the challenge dates...)
Seems to me that everyone should be allowed one "OOPS". Especially if they voluntarily come forward! We should reward honesty.

Technically....
He didn't really come forward voluntarily. He had a DQ request and was required to submit. In the POV challenge, which had basic editing rules, I entered a spot edited photo by accident - it was shortly after the new rules came into effect and forgot which rules I was working under. The next day I realized my mistake and requested (and was "granted") a DQ on my own shot. That's voluntarily coming forward. My reward was a very kind, appreciative e-mail from Langdon.

Not that I'm saying he was dishonest in any way. I believe everything Hans has posted. But I also understand where the SC is coming from - a few bad apples (or maybe more than a few?) along the way have ruined it for those making honest mistakes.

And, what's with the appearant rash of year problems? Related to daylight savings time maybe?

Think of the bright side. When this is an honest mistake it will only happen once, right? :-) And we have tons of great challenges to go. I came very close to doing the same thing once but I would have been more upset with myself for submitting a pic with the wrong date than with the administrators for upholding the rules. But hey, that's just me. I believe this was an honest mistake but we don't know that for sure. If it's not a big deal for us to change than it's also not a big deal to learn from it and move on to the next challenge. With that said, if there were other pictures with the same dates and other info that were of something that proved that it was taken within the challenge dates then I know I would personally consider that has substantial proof to reverse the DQ. I don't know for sure how the rest of the SC feels about this, however.
