Actually, there's a 10ft eiffel tower not too far from here - good idea!

OK, I`ll stay within the boundaries...:(

Beginning to think of ideas now, so things are looking up.

All in all, I think we all have a lot of studying to do of the Your Side of the World challenge, both good and bad shots...

Bummer. Maybe you can try a one-month membership for $5 just for this.

I live in a very "cutsey" town which is also a holiday resort so 1000s of photos have already been taken. I am setting myself the challenge to not take yet another sunset on the lakefront type picture which would be easy, but to go off and find some aspect of the town that I haven't noticed before. I don't think it has to be a pic of a building or a landmark.

Review the top 15, many don't have buildings. They did very well in the challenge. Maybe just a pond, road, park or landmark in your area.
Just a thought.

Yes, but will images without a building be voted down, because the challenge rules say "town or village" in them?

I think jdw91479 is right, because "Your Corner of the World" is less restrictive than "Where you live." I did as Gordon suggested and looked at the previous challenge. Then I checked Merriam-Webster on line (their definitions attached.)

My sense from reading the challenge details and the definitions is that we have to show something with at least multiple living structures (which is too bad because there are some great ideas in "Where you live.")

Since I frequently get the challenge idea wrong, I am hoping to get some opinions on my multiple structure interpertation.

Thanks
Bill.

I can only speak for myself here, but I think as long as you submit a picture of an actual physical location, you're ok. Macro's and photo's of pets or children won't fit the challenge unless they are "interacting" with said physical location. I wouldn't vote down a shot without a building. Nor would I vote down a picture of slums as long as it's well done.

Someone wrote that they're waiting for a nice day - Personally, I love a photo with lots of mist and rain, so if your city has lots of rain, shoot in the rain - capture it an dmake it beautiful. And don't forget that some sunsets look best when there are lots of clouds - there are more colours that way. I'm pretty excited to see everyone's entries. Personally, I won't vote anyone down for not including a buildling.

I don't see the need to include buildings in this. You just need to find a shot that makes the region you live in look interesting.

I'm really struggling to think of a suitable place myself.

Maybe rules should clarify that,I hate don't meet the challenge comments if people don't see an urban area !

A note I've made before, but that will bear repeating:

Many voters don't ever read the challenge details. To score well you have to meet both the details part of the challenge (for those that do read them) and the obvious meaning of the challenge title. This I think there will have to be a structure that could be a house/apartment block/tent/hole in the ground covered with a couple of foot of torn canvas, etc.

I get the feeling we are going to be seeing a lot of landscape photos in this challenge.

I would think that if that was the intent the challenge would have read âShow us your village, town, city or nice looking landscape, from a new perspectiveâ

I am sorry guys but it does not say landscape, I really thing that should be an element of a town or city in the photo to meet the challenge. I donât think saying a tittle of âThe Mountains that are near my townâ is going to fly.

Is it really that hard to show you town? Is there nothing in your town worth photographing?

Everyone is free to submit whatever photos they want to but donât be crying if you get comments that you did not meet the challenge if you just go out and shot a nice view.

How many houses do you want to see?
Some people live in the woods!

I think you have to read beyond the tittle of the challenge and read the details.

Imagine that it is a photo editor that has given you this assignment. Now imagine what he will say if you turn in a photo that in no way shows a village, town or city. If I were the editor I might be a little disappointed having thought the assignment was clear. I can not speak for anyone but myself in this but I donât believe it is that much of a hardship to meet the sprite of the challenge, even if this means driving 10 miles to get to the nearest town.

As to how many houses? That is not really the point. The point is that in someway you should be able to look at the photo and tell that it relates to a village, town or city, that it shows some aspect of it.

Again I donât speak for anyone but myself but for me if the only link to the challenge is the tittle of the photo I donât believe that photo is meeting the challenge.
