Names Jordan and Gretzky... those guys are best what they were doing and also was fouled less than their teammates.
Is the same thing going on here? The photos that are little obvious who the photographers are getting little higher votes maybe.
I am not saying this as a bad thing. Better known people get more recognition and more respect from others, I just want to know if that also is going on here. |

Are you asking or telling?
If you're asking, I think there is a definite bias going on. The person who introduced me to the site left for that reason. He is a much more accomplished photographer than I currently am, but did give me the heads up before I joined.

erm, unless you actually know who took the photograph you can't say that (unless it is a SP challenge). Many people may have a 'style' but you can't say for certain whom the photog is can you? |

After challenges I can confirm I normally have a solid 8-12 guessed correctly from the usual folk. I would find it hard to believe people who've been here longer than me have a worse percentage.

Well, ok, I had that down for him as well however I didn't know it was him and voted the image not for who the photographer was and imho it was the best image in the competition. |

again, I am not saying it's a bad thing... well known people get more recognition, sometime under consciousness we might vote little higher even we don't think about who the photographer is... I just wonder if it's really going on, or I am just imagining things. |

Yes, I agree you can 'guess' but do you know? do you vote the image or who you 'think' it is? am sure this can also go against a known photographer? |

You got me there. I don't care who took the photo, just vote on the photo. That doesn't imply others do the same. I think that's the point FocusPoint may be trying to make.

Personally I think most of the time the best image wins (I say mostly but that is on my idea of the best image). Talking about recognising I also think i recognise the style od photographers that don't always score highly (where is whiterook when you need him?). |

This is where this site gets frustrating, at least for me, is that I don't think I've had a ribbon winner in my top three in any challenge so far except the last free study with the unsuspecting bird getting blindsided.

OK, I think I understand, so what he is actually saying is good images score higher than poorer images? |

I just wonder if a streak starts for someone just because of this psychological thing!? |

Maybe, but as CS said, my top image/s rarely make it to the top 5, it could be a style thing? and yes, the same names seem to be at the top a lot of the time, maybe they are just better at reading the voters here than the rest of us? |

What makes it frustrating? That your choices are not at the top, or that your choices are not in line with the voters?

Well, Jordan didn't have a hockey team, I think referees took that one over... but still, one way or another, they had some respect shown from other players... a lot. |

Haha, I am always looking (after the challenge) to see if the ribboner is a first timer, that usually restores my faith in the system. Also, the one challenge I never would have dreamed of ribboning (Nightmares II of all challenges) blew away my expectations. This tells me that it's not just the regular crowd winning all the ribbons because I am definitely not a part of that crowd. There is definitely, however, a unique DPC style and there are those that know how to resonate with that style.
Not sure if any of that made sense. :S |

Why? Was he a good fighter? |
uhm, no... when someone "touched" him, refs just blew the whistle. |

Actually I heard that from somewhere, about the players being just get more respect... I don't know where from though. I just wonder if similar stuff going on here, which might, and nothing wrong with that :) |

I would also think that the photographer's identity could have an adverse effect on their score... I'm sure there has to be some voters out there who may recognize the photographer and think to themselves, "Damn Ribbon Hog..." and vote their photo a 1 or 2...
Personally, there are a few photographers whose work is so far above everyone else, that its actually recognizable from the thumbnail among the other entries. If anything, I would think voters would be more critical, as these photographers have raised the bar. Let's be real for a minute, if Gyaban entered this image
and everyone knew it was his, do you really think it would score higher??? I don't... In fact, I think it would score considerably lower because its no where near as good as his work is... and people have come to expect a certain level from him...
My apologies to Gyaban for making him my example... I happen to be a big fan of his work, and usually score his images well... Not because they are his, but because of the creativity, originality, and style; all of which I really like.
