"Put the guide books to shame"...The guide books rarely touch my home town and that`s because it would require taking creativity to new heights to get anything decent to show from the town itself.
There are a few attractions in the region that find their way into the guide books..but I suppose that`s not what`s wanted here?
This one looks like it could be dominated by city dwellers or people lucky enough to live in picturesque little villages. |

I have to agree about cities and cute little villages. My home town tends to look more depressing than interesting, so this will be quite a challenge. :) |

It looks so blah and dirty around here right now. The snow is almost gone but nothing green to be seen even. Oh yeah, and there's 10-15 cm of snow in the forecast. Guess I'm gonna have to get really creative now.....don't you people realize I could hurt myself doing that? ;)

"Your corner of the world" is the type of challenge I`ve been looking forward to Gordon, however, this seems a bit more restrictive as it mentions that the subject should be your City, town or village.

I would suggest to take an open interpretation, I doubt whether it is meant to be so restrictive. Nobody will be voting you down if you submit something from a city nearby. Nobody will even be able to vote you down since voting is anonymous.
Or am I bending the rules too much here ?

I suspect with the current voting climate, that you'll have to provide GPS co-ordinates for the shot location (EXIF already has spaces for this info) and signed confirmation of your current residence, along with proof that these two points are within the same geo-political location that could be considered 'where you live'

Review the top 15, many don't have buildings. They did very well in the challenge. Maybe just a pond, road, park or landmark in your area.
Just a thought. |

If someone can take a window frame to a location to get a shot and it's fine, I don't see a problem getting a shot in a nearby town. As long as you don't charter a flight to a beautiful locale in an attempt to win this challenge. That could really piss me off. ;)

Sometimes it takes a move in to the city to become a city dweller before you truly appreciate the beauty and serenety of your own little placed you once called home...
I bet there are hundreds of great photo opportunities to showcase your little town - even Death Valley has a beauty of its own. |

There is nothing picturesque about the little village where I live, unless you consider a rat's nest of electric power poles and lines beautiful.
On the other hand, there are some rather attractive residents....

Same here. No leaves in the trees yet, no flowers yet, just grey with a lot of gravel remaining in the streets from all the anti-skid efforts of the Winter.
Not a good time for everyone! |

Why do you people give up so easy? You have an entire week to figure out something that is verry interesting and apealing about where you live. I live in the smallest most unsignifiant city in the world but I'm sure if I try hard I can find something to atleast beat a few sky strapers. I belive there is not 1 place in the world lived by humans that has not atleast 1 interesting thing or view in it. The challenge is to figure it out. Why do you think that only huge cityes with sky strapers and huge bridges or such would do god in this. For one I'm sure I can find an angle from where my tiny city will look like Paris. :) |

Well, it's not snowing here, but it rains everyday and I haven't seen the Sun in about a week. The town I live in isn't even on the map, but it does belong to the Greater Naples area, so I guess that will have to do. I have lots of great ideas....now I'll just pray for good weather.

Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi Coast and even that dump of a city Naples should qualify. You've got lots a great photo opportunities. I miss Italy. Sorry, I lived there for 3 years and loved it. Except I lived furthur north by Pisa. |

If your town is boring then find a magazine with a picture of the statue of liberty or other interesting landmark (or you can download one off the net) and place it in a field, shoot it, isolate the landmark and make it look bigger in the shot and voila, instant super interesting town!
