Just wondering how far people travel to get a weekly picture for the challenges.

Working all week and having a young family don`t give much time to spend on going around to different parts of the Country; Saturday is normally my only day to take pictures.

I had some ideas for the Silhouettes challenge but that would have been a 600 mile round trip, so I stayed closer to home.

Do people travel great distances to get a picture for a challenge?

Up to the minute,90 miles round trip is the furthest I`ve travelled.
That was for the "Highland cow" national geographic challenge. I originally had the idea of capturing a view of Loch Doine and Inverlochlarig glen near Balqhidder as it can be spectacular in the right conditions..however, the low winter sun didn`t give the effect I wanted and I set off back home disappointed..only to find the cows standing in one of the fields adjoining the loch.
The whole thing was done at speed as I left at 12:30 and wanted back for the football at 3. Made it with 15 minutes to spare. :)

Interested to know where you were thinking of travelling to..somewhere up North ?

I managed a 250-mile round trip for the main image from my future entry. Helped by the fact that I have old friends in the area and also turned it into an excuse for lunch with them, but the point of the trip was the shot.

I was thinking of Cornwall, one of the old tin mines, but living in London makes everywhere decent a distance. I go to Wales, Lake District and Peak district for backpacking trips but these don`t always fit in with the challenges.

The trip for the silhouettes challenge started out at a reservoir but was disappointing and on the way I spotting something else and went there; and got some good pictures (hopefully :).

120 mile round trip with the kids getting bored :(

I stop at the State parks and Metro parks on the way home from work. I want to do road trips to the Carolina Raptor Center (8 hours) and Lakota Wolf Preserve (10 hours), but am waiting until I get a better camera.

So far, about 450 miles. The National Geographic Challenge was a nice excuse to go down south and photograph Elephant Seals in their breeding grounds.

In March we traveled down river to Astoria, then down the coast to Cape Falcon, to get photos for the Magazine Cover challenge. The round trip distance was approximately 187 miles. Actually, we made the trip twice on consecutive weekends, so it was more like 374 miles. But, I got photos for the Magazine Cover, Orange, and March Free Study challenges. I also got some nice photos of Barrier Falls on Gnat Creek, which was a stop along the way. We had a great time, and we found a beautiful little secluded beach in the bargain.

And, one time I went as far as letting my wife drive my jet boat so I could take photos for the Motion Blur challenge. A long way indeed!

I drove over 600 miles from Riverside, California to Thistle, Utah (one way) for the Desolation challenge! (Well, it was only a 30 mile detour (and nice diversion) from our family's trip to Logan.)

We, I and Rita took a day trip to Hull approximately 140 miles round trip for the Design & Engineering Challenge one Sunday. I got the picture but when I tried to get onto the Internet I found my High Speed Cable was out. They told me they were having trouble all along the North East. It came back just after 12:00 that night. This is the picture I never got to use having gone the furthest to get. I did not complain just figured it was MurphyĆ¢€™s Law in action again, not Serendipity.

You made me snort my tea... now... catching Alyson Hannigan with her flute up her... that would be serendipity! (I saw her in Harry Met Sally over Easter weekend but no flute in sight!)
