In previous threads I`ve commented on the fact that we seem to be getting "paranoid" about digitising images.
That`s fine..but here`s someone who can`t tell his "vectors" from his "rasters" and the most complicated thing I can do is to clone out dust spots...yet I find my current "Strength" submission under scrutiny..presumably because someone thinks it has been digitally enhanced.
This is the third time I have had this since joining..(four if you include the "Four Elements" submission which most people were convinced had been enhanced).
I admit that I try to produce images with a difference..but because of my lack of experience in digital techniques, there are very few which would be unable to qualify for basic editing challenges. The only advantage I gain from advanced editing is to be able to clone things out.
I`m beginning to wonder if I should try altering my style to taking snapshots.

I'd take it as a compliment if some people find your pictures unbelieveably good.
Annoying maybe, but still flattering!

I would take it as a compliment!! If you can produce an image that they don't think they can do without the use of Photoshop, hey, go with it & continue to improve. Just submit your original & have it validated. That'll show em...& give them something to strive for in their own photography.

I've had the same thing happen to a couple of images and it does make you paranoid. I think if we were allowed to post a bit of our processing for the world to see during voting, it would clear things up a bit. |

Spot on Christina...I`ve made that point a few times as I think it would help to stop this unnecessary hassle.

Probably just unbelievable Gordon.
The first two comments on my submission said "Ribbon winner"..then I found it collecting a fair number of 3`s and 4`s which may indicate that some people think it`s been doctored....how frustrating.
Nancy..
the first couple of times I could have adopted that attitude but it`s starting to annoy me now, I have sent in the original and fully expect it to be validated but I seriously doubt if I could be bothered with this hassle every time I try submitting something a little different.

I can definitely relate to the aggrivation. I still get my ID checked when I have kids that are old enough to have to start worrying about. I KNOW they're doing their job, but come on! Do I really look like I can be ANYWHERE near 18 or 21??? Married 15 yrs, 3 kids....1 taller than me. I EARNED the right to drink DAMN IT!! hahaha Yet I have to prove it anyway.
As this is a site for learning, many are not as skilled or know the capabilities of thier cameras as much as others do. They look at something & think, "NO WAY! You can't do this without lots of PS"...when all they need is a little vision in how they shoot, paired with knowing how to get the camera to obtain the effects they want. That's what they are here to learn. One of the main ways to do that is to question things they don't believe are possible. It's a vital part of this site.
Besides....once the "VALIDATED" note is on the entry....some of those 3&4's may change...UP :o)
OK, so I'm always looking to find the +'s of things....but if ya don't, you don't get to smile too much! You're good!! SMILE and let your talent show others the possibilities. Maybe try a premtive move. While doing your images, put a log of adjustments in an email, attach the orig & just leave it in your draft folder till the inevitable call comes in....lol All you'll have to do is hit the send button ;)
A good thing came out of this...I got to see the 4 elements shot! NICE!! Gonna need to try that perspective some time! Should be interesting trying to get high enough to do that with a lighthouse huh?? lol
