These challenges are always fun. I do hope for some new blood on the next jury -- a lot of the same folks seem to be called upon; and while the picks were worthy, there were few surprises. For instance, how did this gem get overlooked?

They keep pulling me back in, Brian. It's not my fault! |

Touche. And who can blame them. It is hard to imagine a jury without posthumous on board. |

That is a great reason to have one. |

I was asked by Langdon each time, to organize the jury. There's a virtue in having some continuity from jury to jury, in my mind, because it makes it easier to structure/organize the thing. I always ask Don to be in 'em because he does a FANTASTIC job of organizing up the comments & critiques and presenting them to the members, a task I would not want to undertake.
As far as this year's jury goes, we went out of our way to invite people who had not been on one of these juries before: some turned us down, but look at the first-timers: Jutilda ubique yanko Retroesque Cuttooth vawendy Neat mariuca
...versus the carryovers: LevT posthumous bspurgeon Bear_Music
And, on the carryovers, I acted as "chairperson" and contributed very little to the actual process of identifying the consensus award winners and HMs. So that's a pretty healthy ratio of new blood, and a pretty diverse set of approaches to photography, to my way of thinking.
If I were asked to do this again, I'd accept; and I'd do the same next time -- act as an organizer, impanel a few experienced jurors, and bring in a bunch of new faces to be heard.

Fair enough. Thanks for explaining. Your points are well taken and your efforts appreciated. And that Don's just wanted for his incredible secretarial skills makes me feel better. |

Oh gawd, that didn't come out right! Forgive me, Don! I always want him on the jury because he gives CREDIBILITY to a jury just by being on it. In DPC, Posthumous = thoughtful attitude towards art & creativity. He's our strongest voice in the wilderness, as it were.
But, more selfishly, I can't imagine not having him on board just because he makes the WORK of the thing so much easier. For me, I mean. Harder for him... Oh, fizzle... :-)

I'm not offended, but dozens of secretaries are now typing angry letters at 100 words a minute. |

Thank you all for entering, for jurying, for commenting. This could take a month to digest, but here is one that for some reason I like more each time - is it street, is it fine art and what is the difference? Story, textures.
