Can anyone recommend a good tablet for photo editing\graphic design?

How many of you use one?

I just recently got a Wacom graphire for 108$, it is great.

Wacom has a variety of different tablet for different needs.

Graphire 3 for $49.99. Decent with photoediting. Pretty good for sketching.

I dropped the big bux a couple of years ago on a Wacom Intuos II 9x12, and haven't regretted it one bit. However, I suspect I may have been just as happy with the cheaper Graphire because there are lots of features on the Intuos that I don't use to the full extent, such as the pen tilt function, and the custom buttons on the top edge of the tablet.

Your choice of tablet is also driven by your personal taste -- I learned to draw with a mouse many years ago, and just couldn't get comfortable with a smaller tablet (4x6 I think) when I was working at a friend's studio. Now that I've used the 9x12 for so long, I can probably never go to a smaller tablet. If you typically draw small, and don't mind changing views -- zooming in and out frequently -- then perhaps the smaller one is a good value for you.

In general, I think they're indispensable. And, you can find'm on eBay used for pretty cheap.

How well does the graphire coexist with a mouse. I don't want to use the mouse on the tablet, because I mouse right handed and write/draw with a pen left-handed. Thus the ones that have both are not of interest to me.

(The story of my pseudo ambidextrous hands has to do with the evolution of the PC--when they first came out and we had to share, I just used the mouse righty because it was easier than switching it each time; now I can't mouse lefty!)

You guys'll love this. Was in Circuit City the other day. They had an Intuos2 Platinum 6x8 mislabelled at $99. I asked the guy about it, and he said, "If that's the price it says, that's what we sell it at."

So I bought it. Love it. As to the question about the mouse, I don't use the one that came with the tablet. My MS Optical mouse continues to work just fine. (I'm also a righty-mouser, and a lefty-drawer/writer.)

$200 off sounds mighty decent.

Wow, what a deal. Just clarify one thing: are both your mouse and the table USB?

Re: mouse, mine didn't come with a mouse, but I use a plain ole' optical mouse the tablet is too smooth and featureless for an optical mouse to function, hence the mousepad. I was thinking of printing up a grid of lines on my laserprinter and putting it beneath the clear flap on the tablet to see if that would make the mouse work right w/o the pad -- it's kinda tall, and is doing nothing good for my wrist RSI... :(

I have a graphire 2 and it works fine with a logitech optical mouse.

They are both USB devices, and both work at the same time. I actually keep the graphics tablet mostly under my mouse pad and mouse on top of the pad, then move it out of the way to use the tablet.
