So, I invested in Topaz earlier today. Played around with it for a little bit. Thought I'd share a pic that I've edited using Topaz.
Any suggestions, critique, comments are welcome.
Thumbnail to the original is in the picture's description.
Thanks guys! This place is great! I have been learning so much!!! :)

Here's what I did with it, using Topaz adjust and PaintShop Pro X2. I did do a bit of selective editing to pull some details out of the highlights and shadows. There is a lot of fine detail in this scene, which is hard to pull off at web friendly sizes. It often ends up looking cluttered and overly busy. This image is kind of borderline. The foreground stands out nicely from the background, so that helped.
I also tried it in b/w, but it really didn't work well that way, so I dumped it.
-Levels adjust
-Topaz adjust, modified Spicify Extra Lite (A custom preset of mine, and my most often used.)
-Slight color temperature adjust
-duplicate and multiply blend @ 14% (deepens colors)
Clarify +3 (PaintShop Pro's built in tonemapping. Similar to, but also a little different from Topaz)
-Selective darkening of water to bring out details (using duplicate layer, curves and masking)
-Selective lightening of shore details (using duplicate layer, curves and masking)
-Increase contrast using high radius unsharp mask
-Sharpen with unsharp mask.

I had to play with it:
boost on the top part (which I never use, because it's usually way, way, way too harsh. But was kinda fun here. :)
toned cerulean on the bottom
But then I had to just do cerulean:
I'm pretty myopic when it comes to topaz. I use photo pop probably the most, to take down the highlights and bring up the shadows a bit, but I change the details so that they're more like the clarity setting. I like that for wildlife.
I love the tones of french countryside, and use that in combination with other things.
pencil sketch can be interesting when used with soft light blend and reduced opacity.
A couple of the toned collection are truly wonderful.

These shots can be very tricky, lots of extra brights and lots of extra darks. On top of that, there is a LOT going on. That being said, the light captures through the ice is magnificent. I agree with Wendy's edit, it's able to capture the beauty of the light you captured while toning down elements that distract the eye (color of the tree and branches). The cerulean really evens it out and tames down the front noise while bringing greater attention to the details of the light in the ice, where this shot really shines (no pun intended)! Just my 2 cents for whatever it's worth... |

BTW, when posting an image asking for editing help, it's useful to post the original in a larger size. It's hard to get a good edit from 800 pixels. It will display at 800, but there will be a link on the image page to show it at full size. I'll usually post it at a 2000 pixels or better, with low compression. I'll also usually put the RAW file up somewhere and provide a link to that. (Since DPC cannot directly host RAW files)

Thanks. I will remember that. Maybe I'll set up a separate page on my website, hidden from everyone but DPC members for accessing these. Hell, I have almost 1000 pages to use, used like 8 so far? Got the largest go daddy package... and use smugmug to display. Seems like a waste now that I think of it. Lol
