We all need artistic inspiration sometimes â€Â¦ I found the Natsumi Hayashi stuff to be inspiring, for example.
What web-site/s are you inspired by?

I'm inspired by everything, from music to movies, from theater to everyday life and of course - photography. Nothing more than other stuff, everything is at the same level. Photography is constantly ispired by what we see with our own eyes, but all the five senses partecipate to the generation of an idea. Each day is a different kind of inspiration but everything is useful. For instance, your photography has inspired me a lot when I came here on DPC.

I'm usually inspired by things I like. At one time I thought I was just being lazy about seeking out my challenge entries, but then I realized the challenges made me look at the same subject or location in many different ways. I have a huge collection of entries taken in the vicinity of the Ft.Worth Stockyards, and there is quite a variety beyond the expected cowboy theme.

When we did the "rejected movie titles" challenge, I wanted to do something with Kermit & Piggy, but the only idea I had was "Muppets best little whorehouse in Texas". I didn't know how to pull that off, even under expert editing. A walk through the DVD aisle at Wal-mart provided the needed inspiration.

Generally I read the challenge descrip, anticipate what kind of images you're most likely to see, and try to go the other way. Though sometimes I'll go with the crowd (ie I entered an overhead-shot shadowbox filled with different candies in it for the Sweets challenge, as did a few others) but in that case I was playing with the SB-910 and learning how to bounce the flash and see how well it lit the different textures and colours. Thrilled with the results, though my entry turned out a little washy, as I redid it at the last minute on an antiquated comp and no way to test the monitor's calibration.

The idea for an image typically just pops into my head, and then I draw a pretty rudimentary sketch of it. At least for the challenges. I don't have enough time behind the camera with other styles of work to really claim a style or vision.

Not so much at DPC, anymore. Used to be that I found some amazing images here at DPC. Still some here, but less.

I do view the 500px site images frequently for inspiration. Frankly, the larger format presentation there beats 800 pixels here, for landscape especially. An 800 pixel limitation causes a focus on simpler subjects and much less complex scenes.

Before, I only did sports, mainly running.
It's easy when you're a washed up former elite runner, I usually know exactly where and when the action is going to occur around the track. Makes capturing those moments of plight or glory all too easy.

My motivation now is to get out of that shell. I'm nigh useless using a flash or staging a photo. I read books, look at photos, and simply experiment. Since I bought my flashes, I still can't take a photo I like with the exception of my avatar and this one. I have an awesome idea for the palindrome challenge but I'm sure my lack of skill will shine through. My motivation is to get'er done, then redo the photo in the future when I have the skills because I'm sure the idea is solid.

I do my best thinking in the bathroom, usually in the shower while singing off-key.
