There is one art,
no more, no less;
to do all things
with artlessness.

Okay folks, here's the deal: I was tasked by Langdon with forming a jury for this challenge, and I'm pleased to announce them here:

Bear_Music bspurgeon Cuttooth Jutilda LevT mariuca Neat posthumous Retroesque ubique vawendy yanko

The selection process was, inevitably, pretty arbitrary. I enlisted a couple of experienced jurors and we compiled a list of names from our own inclinations, people we thought would be good to work with and who represented a spectrum of approaches to "art". The list contained way more folks than could practically work together as a jury, so I arbitrarily decided 12 was the maximum we could handle, and sent out 14 invitations culled from that list. Much to my surprise, all but two invitees accepted, and here we are :-)

We've tried to balance the jury with a variety of artistic POVs, and we've fairly well balanced it in a male/female sense. So far, so good :-)

We (the jury) have debated keeping ourselves anonymous, so that y'all wouldn't be trying to target our tastes with your entries, but in the end that seemed impractical, and any targeting is doomed anyway, 'cuz how you going to target Ubique and Yanko, or Posthumous and Vawendy, with the same shot?

So our strong recommendation to you is, "Forget we even exist!"

This is, first and foremost, a member's challenge, and the members will be voting the ribbons as usual. The juried aspect of it is just a quirky appendix to the main show. Pay us no heed. Nothing to see here :-)

Onwards and upwards, Artists of DPC! Mine those archives! Show us all what you do with a camera when nobody's looking :-)

So will you all vote personally in the challenge, then discuss? Or how do you envision this working, particularly with a large group. And you'll all be entering too, I presume.

:-) Time to dig into the 2011 files to look for the art type shots....

We jurors are free to enter the challenge if we wish. The members will vote on our entries as usual. We will reveal our entries to each other and we will recuse ourselves from voting on them in the regular part of the challenge. In theory one or more of us might ribbon, but we are not eligible for the juried awards.

We jurors will vote on the challenge as usual, and we will also each prepare a list of nominations for the juried awards. The nominations will be merged to create a "short list" for awards consideration, and the juried Awards and Honorable Mentions will come from that list. Between the creation of the short list and the voting on it will come a period of discussion amongst the jurors, as we make our cases for the images we prefer. The actual details of how we will "vote" on the short list this time around have not been finalized as yet. It's a little different each year, as the makeup of the juries changes.

Good job of jury selection, Bear_Music. Good people. Fun task. Best wishes!

I'm very disappointed this has only been announced now and only with a two-week submission period. I'm away from my hard drives the next two weeks so I have no chance to submit anything.

We had three weeks to submit to an anticipated challenge (best of 2011) but only two for this?

This was my one chance to be the counter culture. Artsy folks just don't understand boring landscapes. They're too complete.

Easy. Just round up some animals and then as you take the picture have someone knock the camera out of your hand. However, you have to do it several times otherwise your friend's hand won't swell up to the size of one of Posthumous ribbons and the picture won't look as good.

A high contrast silhouette of a blurred squirrel should do well with this lot.
