So up until now, I have pretty much just been a lurker around here (posting every now and then). So I have decided to take the plunge and become more known around here. It's time to come out of my shell and show my work, voice my opinion, and be an actual member around here.
But there's one little problem...
My old laptop died. ARGH!!!!!! Well, actually it was destroyed... but hey, dead is dead.
So here I am, awaiting my tax returns (oh how the IRS continues to play God), so that I can go out and invest in a new system.
I will, of course, buy another laptop, as the portability and convenience are an absolute must. But for the past 15 years, I have been a normal pc user, owning everything from HP, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Sony, Acer, Samsung, and most recently, Toshiba.
However, I will now cross over to the dark side (as some of my friends would say)... APPLE.
I have always been a fan of the Mac OS, and this time, I will be investing in a MacBook Pro.
Cannot wait to load all my software so that I can finally get this show on the road. Especially since I am currently using my teenage daughter's laptop, which is NOT designed for multiple programs to be running, let alone, multiple browser windows. SIGH.
Just thought I would share, as I am super excited about this. By next weekend, I should be a proud Mac owner! :) |

i have 3 mac book pros 2x17 and 1x15 plus a 12" mac book an ipad and 2 iphones plus a few ipods welecome to the light side of teh force, i think you will be so surprised at how it all works without having to look for a driver for this or restarting etc, without the need for rubbish software like norton slowing you down as mac are so much more secure
i will be getting an imac this year for photos to consolidate everything off the laptops
i was a pc guy throughout child hood and uni till iworked for sun in munich and became a unix geek then moved to macs and been the best thing ever
this macbook pro 17 im on is 4 years old and still going strong, 500hd 4gb ram and runs ps and final cut pro fine. runs for 2 hours on battery tr that with a dell or hp...
takes a bit to change over, but its so intuitive its an easy change

@ cowboy: Why the intervention? just curious
@ giles: I too, already have many apple products, including the newest iPod (as music is the second joy of my life, actually, I find music to help with my photography, weird. lol). I have owned the iPhone (though currently using a Samsung, not even comparable). And used many iPads. Cannot wait for my MacBook!
@ tanguera: If only I could run out and get it today. :( Soon... but isn't soon always too far away? lol |

Getting an iMac the first weekend of march (hopefully). Soon afterwards, I will be entering challenges. So excited, yet nervous. Everyone here does such great work! Hopefully I will receive critique that I can learn from. Looking forward to seeing you all in the challenges!

Looks like I get to move the date up... Saturday I will be shopping around for a new computer. Got my heart set on a MacBook Pro and iMac... perhaps something else will catch my eye...
But I doubt it. LOL
Few more days...
And the countdown begins.
lol

Welcome to the world of "just getting things done" :)
Edit to add, why a Macbook Pro AND an iMac? Surely you would be better buying the laptop and a monitor, the lovely Apple 27" Thunderbolt for example that I have been lusting over for about a year!
I owned an iMac before my Macbook Pro, now all the iMac gets used for is a media streaming station, it's too much pain to move my photos about just to use the larger monitor.

[tongue-partially-in-cheek]
Get a PC - If your self image is all about massive system administration ... you know what I mean ... massive defrag, day-long anti-virus scans, registry (PC-Colonic) cleansing.
Get a PC - If you enjoy re-imaging your Windows system every 6-12 months.
Get a PC - If you enjoy solving esoteric essentially unsolvable puzzles like 'where did the Windows 7 interface put that?'
Get a PC - If you enjoy talking with offshore support techs saying, 'Oh, Blue Screen - I can help you with that! May I put you on hold for just two minutes?' ... sing song voice optional.
Get a PC - If you want to fuck around fixing it all the time.
Get a PC - If backups requiring 6 fingers on 7 keys playing the symphony TC/IP are music to your ears.
Or
Get a Mac - No harm, no foul, no drama. Simple, elegant, pleasant. Get on with your life. I moved our household to Macs 2 1/2 years ago. Never happier. Never a regret. Macs just work ... with everything.

You realise Apple aren't the only ones using these factories? They're just in the spotlight because they're successful. |
