I don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but I just came across this sneak peek presented by Bryan O'Neil:

Greater things are waiting!

I have Lr 4 Beta installed, so I have played with the RAW processing engine. It is pretty nice! I was impressed, and I'm used to Lr 3.6, which is no slouch.

| How is it different? I'm probably not using LR3 to it's full potential but I didn't notice a big difference between 2 and 3...where do you see the differences? Depending on my company, LR4 might be available right away but that means moving around catalogs etc...which is what caused me issues between 2 and 3. |

One huge difference: we now have RGB curves, pretty much all the functionality you have in Ps. There has been some improvement in the basic adjustments, e.g. blacks and some other sliders are now "centered" by default. Some of the underlying code for adjustments like clarity has been improved. The end result is some improvement in performance and it feels more intuitive.
The Lr4 Beta is still more than a little buggy, it crashes occasionally on my system. If you try it out, be advised that it does not read or upgrade catalogs from previous versions. You have to import photos to create your Lr4 catalog. Be very careful if you do this, make sure that you "import at current location."

| The whole thing looks like marginal improvements to me--probably not worth the price of an upgrade from CS5. I was hoping they had that awesome sharpening filter that someone posted here a while ago. |

If I owned CS5, I think I'd feel the same. I'm currently running CS4, so an upgrade for me might make sense.

Sneak Peek #2 has now been posted on YouTube. It talks about how you can save one document while working on another in PS CS6 and also the new and improved liquify tool:

I use the content aware fill all the time and this new feature will be even a greater timesaver. Amazing, amazing! |

Exciting news! Photoshop CS6 beta released. A good video that goes over some of its new features:

I don't think I could have resisted CS6 if it included the de-blurring tool.
As it is, I'll probably survive sticking with CS5 :-) |
