Ooooh!!! I like this!

Oh wait. I can't vote on my own.

Oooh!!!! I don't like this!

Hmmmm... but ignoring my own entry, I could pick the winners.

Ooooh!!! I like this again!!

I'll say it again: standard deviation....it would be fun....Sigma Prize....

What would help me would be higher resolution voting system. At the moment, if an image isn't as appealing as the images I've given 6s then it gets a 5, when actually I'd be happy giving it 5.9.

well lets see, dpc hold a challenge and dpc member vote on it, the highest avg vote wins... where's the problem?

changing the scale inst going to do anything. removing numbers wont do anything, forcing users to comment wont do anything, the highest rated images will still be, relatively speaking, the highest rated images.

why do people the feel need to keep trying to alter the scale?

Some people think it would work better. It doesn't matter if it would or would not or if you agree. Part of this site is input from members and I for one like seeing ideas thrown around regardless if I agree with them or if I think it is a good idea. I think a big issue isn't necessarily that we get low votes but that we may not know why we are getting them but comments, especially critique style comments, have been on a decline because of the backlash that can and has been given. Perhaps if a critique or comment welcome button or something is implemented, which I believe is being discussed, that would help a bit.

I support this actually, and I think that it should be allowed that your vote goes to your own entry.
A big hat full of nuts, each marked with one entry number, and may the luckiest win.
The rule of the squirrel we could call it :D

The only score that should require a comment is "5". That would blow people's minds. hahahaha I hate 5s.

ok, then why not take away the anonymity, how about if when you clicked a number in your post voting score breakdown, you could see all these that gave that score, kind of like how your favorites works.

im sure people would love that.

If the best images always win, and your original quote is right, the winning images from DPC would win any contest because they're the "best". Simply not true. They're not better, they just scored higher.

Then I could vote every image a "1" and get pilloried in the forums or give them all a "10" and be lauded. Either way gives the same challenge result.

- Stop voting altogether
- Viewing an entry requires a comment, enforced by freezing up the viewer's PC until they leave one
- All comments (good or bad) must be justified by a second, explanatory comment
- Everyone gets a "Participation" award. ...even if you didn't enter
- We all have to drink 4 shots at rollover ...except if you are under 13 or are actively in rehab

Shouldn't we drink the shots before we start voting? As an enlightenment aid? And possibly to improve the odds that comments will be amusing ... to someone.

Best? The best according to DPC. Those may or may not be the best images entered depending on who you ask.

yes the best on dpc, what else would matter? DPC is small group and we decide what images we like best in a given topic of submitted entries.

best is subjective, but the mass consensus will always prevail in any voting system. the middle of the pack images may get shuffled a bit, but the top images will still come out on top.

I guess nothing else does matter if you're OK with having DPC be your universe.

Considering that the votes are for images submitted by DPC members for DPC challenges and voted on by DPC members then in this instance the universe is DPC.

I should have clarified: 4 MORE shots.

I can't believe this thread made it this far... Don't you ever get tired about arguing about the same thing? There are about eleventeen threads about the same exact thing...

Lemme answer for the smart-a$$'s. "No, we don't get tired of it..." typical...

that's my point, what else are we talking about? I thought "best" was understood to be relative to the highest scoring images this site. sorry if you misunderstood the context. its obvious the best images here on DPC may not be top on another site.

FWIW, best is subjective to each user, but the most visually appealing images always get the highest votes and are ranked as such.

If I vote a 1 on an image that gets an average of 8+ do you really want my opinion?
