 Grammar school???? Are you kidding? I'd be getting solid Ds if they didn't do this in college also. XD
 Sorry off topic.

		| lets remove the 5 and have a default value which would be 5 means if you didn;t vote 5 would be default ;) I see lot of views on photo entry but not many votes so I guess we will have 100% voting ;) |

 So what would your average be if you got a 4, 3, 1 and a 5?

		One major problem with scoring on an absolute scale is the fact there is no agreed upon criteria for what that scale represents. A score of 4 means something different to each voter. A better measurement IMO is to measure the relative distance from the voters top rated image.
 For example, if you had five images submitted (A,B,C,D,E) with four voters:
 Voter 1 scores A=10,D=4,B=3,E=3,C=1
 Voter 2 scores C=10,E=8,A=2,D=2,B=1
 Voter 3 scores A=3,B=3,C=1,E=1,D=2
 Voter 4 scores D=10,A=5,E=4,B=2,C=1,

 Average results would be:
 A=(10+2+3+5)/4=5
 D=(4+2+2+10)/4=4.5
 E=(3+8+1+4)/4=4
 C=(1+10+1+1)/4=3.25
 B=(3+1+3+2)/4=2.25.
 The problem is that C scores higher than B even though voters 1,3,4 all scored B higher than C but because of the absolute scale C comes out higher due to voter 2 giving it a 10.

 Instead one could look at the relative distance from the top rank on a per voter basis. Thus scoring the top image 0, next best images 1, next best 3, and so on. So for voter 1 it would be A=0,D=1,E=2,B=2,C=3. Then the image with the lowest average score would be the top ranked image and results would come out
 A=(0+2+0+1)/4=0.75
 D=(1+2+1+0)/4=1
 E=(2+1+2+2)/4=1.75
 B=(2+3+0+3)/4=2.0
 C=(3+0+2+4)/4=2.25.
 Under this system image B is higher ranked than image C because it is an aggregation of relative rankings on a per voter basis. The voting scale could even be increased to 0-100 to allow for fewer images with the identical distances from their respective top ranking.

 Just a thought..

 Bingo. Where I would normally give a 3, I would now give a Pi, thereby artificially inflating the ego of the entrant and avoiding hurt feelings. |
