Juvie was released on Saturday. D1 looks like she is heading closer to home.... she's about 120 miles away as opposed to 190 miles previously. |

I'm confused. If that was a 2010 hatch, it shouldn't have had a white head. It takes about 5-6 years for the head to turn white...

There are photos of a few different birds there. The one they released (photos in the middle) is supposed to be about two years old and it doesn't have a white head. The one at the beginning (with a white head) is apparently a bird that lives at the rehab centre because it's eyesight isn't good enough for it to live in the wild. The one at the end is the Decorah Dad. |

Just a couple of updates.... Mom & Dad seem to be spending extra time re-building and re-decorating the nest these days...
D1 has been steadily moving south and yesterday was only about 20 miles away from the hatch nest. She has been over 200 miles away from the nest. It will be interesting to see if she comes by for a visit. |

thank you for that update! I would not have thought to check the site so early.
As everyone from the last cycle knows, this is an addictive site once the kids arrive.
camera setup looks good - of course it's dark right this instant so no activity.
Link for when there's activity. |

I don't check in to the camera very often, but get updates on Facebook and they often put up an update when there's activity in the nest.
I'm amazed at the way D1 has made her way back so close to the nest after having travelled all that distance. It's a shame we don't know what her siblings have been up to. |

If you check out the maps today, you will see she went a little south of the nest and has now turned and headed northwest - in a direct line to home. Today she was 15 miles away. What an interesting adventure. It IS a shame we don't know what the siblings are up to. Maybe they will be able to track an entire clutch some day... It is fascinating to be able to observe the behaviors of these beautiful creatures. |

If you want to look at eagles, the Decorah eagles are working on their nest right now.
Well, except when they run off to get more twigs.

There's a handful of sparrows in the nest right now, pecking at stuff. Hilarious.

Read just below the video. Bob tracked down D1 today and managed to get a photo of her from a distance. |

She was only 2 miles from the nest this morning - certainly close enough to classify as a visit. It will be interesting to see how long she stays close to home. |

Close enough to run into her parents, I imagine. I wonder what would happen if they met up somewhere near the nest. |

There are two new photos of D1 taken today.
No sign of any eagles on the live feed right now, just a nest full of snow! |

She (D1) has been hanging around Decorah (well, within 30 miles anyway), but a couple of days ago she went back to within 2 miles of the nest. Mom and Dad seem to be spending a lot of time with "nestorations", and Dad successfully defended the nest against another adult eagle who happened by to check it out. They've also posted that Sunday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. the National Geographic WILD channel will feature the Decorah bald eagles in a documentary titled "Wild Mississippi." It is a three part series (three hours) with footage from the Decorah bald eagles' nest shown in the second episode titled: "Raging Waters." It will be interesting to keep up with D1 and watch the new family begin. |

"This just in"
I just tuned in the Decorah eagle nest and both of the pair were on it.
They are working on the nest, cleaning it up and getting ready to be parents again.
Excellent camera angle and definition this year.
This link should get you there.

Hurrah! I feel like a grandparent again. This is great. As soon as the eggs are layed, we'll keep a window open on the gallery computer for customers to share our enjoyment of this.
Seems like the camera is slightly higher (better angle) and sharper. Might be a new camera. I'm delighted to see the eagles return. Must be a great spot for them, with the fish nearby.

They received as much money from donations and ad revenue last year as they had wanted. They probably could have bought and installed 3 or 4 3D HD cameras with the income they received last year. |

The nest bowl seems to be completed (or nearly so) and Mom has settled in a few times to make sure it's just right. The first egg should appear any day now... Here is a link to a news story about D1 |

Wow, they're both working on the nest right now! Early spring cleaning? More like maintenance & upkeep, tidying the perimeter. Image quality MUCH better this year.

Yes, they did some work and got a new camera etc. Much better angle and quality. This is at least the fourth year there for the male. His previous partner was unfortunately killed during the late winter months a few years ago in a bad snow storm. The male sat on the eggs the entire time when she didn't come back, but I think he had to eventually abandon them. I believe this will be the third hatching of eggs with this pair. I doubt they will ever leave that nest unless something unforeseen happens.

I agree the image is far superior than last year. New eggs probably due mid Feb to the end of the month. Possibly as late as the first week of March. I'm hoping sooner. :)
