I have an idea that I think will work well, if I can actually pull it off. I am very new to photography, and have never attempted a studio-type shot. I built a light box today; just need a few more things and then I will take a few test shots of stills to learn a bit about controlling the lighting more than I have ever attempted. Then the really hard part begins as I try to talk my young model through duplicating the picture in my head. It will be fun even if I end up thinking it is not good enough to submit. Since it will be my first challenge submission, I want it to be something worth submitting.

The most amazing thing so far has been the support of those around me as I attempt something quite out of character for me. They have looked at me funny, but as I explain the image I want to create they start nodding their heads and my brother even pitched in and helped make the frame for the light box.

No may of you cast their ideas, but i will: What about "passive strenght"? The roots of an old tree blasting the rocks behind it during the many years of its existence? It is strenght, but not muscle. Like a "Gandi look" at strenght. Use the idea if you like, I don't know where to find my tree!

The first thing I thought of when I saw "strength" as the challenge was motherhood, though that isn't the angle I ended up choosing. I guess to me strength is more.. visceral. Not to say there's anything wrong with displays of physical strength, but I'm hoping there will be a healthy blend of different takes on strength. I'd really like to see the elements, human emotion, etc.... along with the lions and athletes :)

How do you take a picture of Strength of Character?
what about Tower of Strength?
Strength of Conviction or Strength of Perservirance?
Strenght in Numbers or Strength Alone?
Silent Strength or Deadly Strength?
Watch your Strength or Let your Strength Go?
Weakly Strong or Strongly Weak?
Monstrously Strong or Amazingly Weak?
Strong Colour? Strong Odors? Strong Background?

Hmmmm, I wonder... Although I had already submitted my pic. Just wondering what else may show Strength, Other than Muscles.

That is the fun part of these challenges - i think anyway - is trying to get the pic in your head captured for others to see. Check my conflict pic and you will see a good idea implemented poorly (in my opinion). I think good ideas do well even if the technicalities are lacking (so some extent anyway).

If only I had an idea...and time. working 2 shifts today (easter sunday). Holiday weekend, and then you have folks call off at the last moment and 2 got hurt..i will likely miss this challenge.

Good luck, and welcome to the site.

Obvious scores better than subtle. I suspect from reading this thread there will be tons of 'does not meet challenge' comments.

It is difficult to take a person shot that gets 'strenght of spirit (etc)' to come across, but i suspect we;ll have 10 or so shots with a similar title, very portrait like, and when they get the 'no meet' comment they will accuse the voters of 'not getting it' or 'not taking long enough to look at the pic' etc.

Same old, same old. Just more of it this time.

Now to get my cat to bench press my dog, while holding a flower in his teeth.

Thanks. I was not able to get my original choice of model (she was willing, but timing conflicted), so my wife sit in and did a good job. It is not exactly what I had in mind, but it is good enough I submitted it. Now I just have to keep from biting my fingernails off.
