It would not matter if they gave on 1's, 2's or 10's. Since the low or high scores would be distributed evenly they would not alter the ranking, just the over-all average of the challenge. This is true even if it is only done on the first 20%, as several doing so would provide a coverage of the whole. The few unlucky to get more than their share, and the lucky who get none, would both not be effected that much by the end of the challenge -- unless the voting is really slow that week.

Imagine this:
Everyone votes on 20-30 % of the images.Your photo gets repeatedly skipped and only one person votes on it with 1 or 10 !
And you end up either winning with 10.0 score or getting brown ribbon with score of 1.00 !
Is it 20 % rule enough ? Question is now ! |

I think we should be allowed to vote our own photos, as many times
as we like...... :)

It's simple. Some of us are stil on slower dialups and when there are 300+ entries it's almost impossible to vote all.

I've been a lurker at this site for awhile- but have just entered my first challenge. :)
I'm thinking that for every challenge I enter, I need to at least vote in another challenge.

While what you describe is certainly possible, it is also pretty statistically insignificant.
Assume 300 entries, and maybe 200 voters, also we know that the images are presented for voting in a random order (assume it actually is really random, even though obviously it really isn't, and is only pseudo-random)
First voters votes on 20% of the entries. You have an 80% of not getting a vote at all.
Second voter votes on 20% of the entries, You have a 64% chance of not getting a vote at all. (and a 20% chance of only getting 1 vote)
Third voter votes on 20% of the entries, You have a 64% chance of only getting one vote, or 36% chance of having at least one vote.
4th voter, 51.2% chance of only having one vote
...
200th voter, 0.00000000000000000648361807637669% (0.8^198) chance of only getting 2 votes on any given image, or in other words a
99.9999999999999994% chance of having at least two votes. [1-(0.8^198) roughly]
Also, most people probably vote on more than 20% of the images, so these odds get even smaller for what you describe happening, for example, if only 2 people vote on all images, the probability goes to 0.
Or there abouts, give or take some statistical liberties.
Lies, damn lies and statistics and all that.
I'd worry more about getting hit by a bus, I think.
