Project "This Land" - Instructions and comments
I thought of this idea a few days ago while driving to work. I hope others will find it to be as fun as I thought it might be.
Project "This Land", is setting the words of Woody Guthrie's song "This Land is Your Land" to photography. The principle objective is to have fun. This is not a contest and there are no rules, other than the photographs you submit must be your photographs and must reside in your portfolio. I've divided the project into three different threads to keep things as simple as possible.
This thread is for instructions on how to participate and for comments regarding the project.
This thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=83013
is a list of the lyrics with a numerical index to the left to identify the lyric an image is to be related.
This thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=83015 is strictly for the storyboard where the lyrics and images will be assembled.
Participating is easy. Simply go to this thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=83013
, and post a comment that contains the index number for the lyric, and a url to a photograph in your portfolio that is related to the lyric.
The reasoning for keeping that thread clear of questions and comments is so we all have an easy view of what lyrics have already been chosen. Also note that lyrics indexed 52-55 also contain your choice of location. Those locations can be anywhere, they need not be in the U.S.
To get things started I chose lyric [025]. I don't have the best image for it and if someone else can offer one I'll replace mine with it.
As people participate I'll update the storyboard. I log in several times a day which should be sufficient. Feel free to offer any suggestions or PM me.
** Note for SC and admins. If you feel this idea is not in the best interest of DPC please lock all three threads.

Very cool project.
I put one in, but can we submit images for more than one line?

Spazmo99, I just realized I posted my shot for line 31 right after yours! I didn't mean to compete, that's a gorgeous photo. |

We can ultimately get a sound track, and turn it into a video with some simple cut/dissolves/wipes from one picture to the other. License for the lyric shouldn't cost too much .... |

There are other verses. Can we add lyrics (i.e. from the Canadian version)? |

Hi Colette,
These are the Canadian verses I've heard. I'm willing to add as many as people will add pictures. Advise me on which you want added.
There's quite a few different versions. The original was "God Blessed America For You and Me".
This land is your land,
This land is my land,
From Bonavista
To Vancouver Island,
From the Artic Circle,
To the Great Lake waters,
This land was made for you and me.
I've roamed and I rambled
And I followed my footsteps
To the fir-clad forests
Of our mighty mountains
And all around me
A voice was calling,
This land was made for you and me.
I followed your low hills
And I followed your cliff rims,
Your marble canyons
And sunny bright waters.
As the fog was lifting,
A voice was saying
This land was made for you and me.
When the sun comes shining
And I am strolling,
And the wheat fields waving
And dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting
A voice was calling,
This land was made for you and me.

Garry,
If you could add the 1st and the third one you mention that would be great and I'll dig up some photos. The second and the fourth are very similar to ones in the version you've already posted.
Great idea.
Colette

If there are no objections I inserted those two verses prior to the last existing verse.
Some people have asked questions and I hope it doesn't seem rude that I haven't answered. The only voice I have is my own. This project belongs to all of us. |

I'm glad you did because I have a lot of Great Lakes shots to pick from.

Garry,
I just looked over the verses and we're missing mountains and forest. I know this is a bit repetitive but if you think it fits could you add the following verse that you suggested before.
I've roamed and I rambled
And I followed my footsteps
To the fir-clad forests
Of our mighty mountains
And all around me
A voice was calling,
This land was made for you and me.
Thanks.
Colette
PS. Meaning... I can't use any of my mountain pictures.

I think you get to make the rules for this project ... that will keep it much simpler. |

I think its looking good! 37 lines left to fill in I am gonna try to come up with something else,
I would love to see this all turn out into something more then the forums like a screensver or wallpaper,, a photo album or book would be cool to!
