Not sure if it will help...but I hope it does...

I can't help but thinking that the amount of traffic that visit Wikipedia in a day holds a huge number of folks that aren't aware of it, so I'd HOPE it would increase awareness instead of "awww man stupid wikipedia is down. It's so unreliable."

I assume that it will not be down - I assume they will throw up a splash page discussing the topic at hand...

The web of the past is almost gone now and I miss it.... I hope politicians (or more realistically they owners) get some common sense before more of it is rolled under corporate greed but that's a pretty pathetic hope.

There has been a lot of nails in the coffin over the years and this is just the latest of it. And for the record - it's got nothing to do with stealing stuff for me...

Google has made no secret of its opposition to the controversial anti-piracy measures in Congress, but now the search giant plans to contest the bills by adding a protest Wednesday on its home page, the same page where those lovable Google doodles are often found.

I guess what happens in China stays in China as far as Google is concern...

Yeah - Google is talking out both sides of it's mouth now days - I don't know why more people do not hassle them about that and some other countries they operate..... once this thing gets passed - and it will in some form - it's going to be hard to see the difference in places between China and anywhere else :-(

You can change your Facebook and Twitter profile pictures to support the blackout effort. It is easy if you go here.

Your right but I would have been better if Facebook, Twitter, and Google would have got fully on board. I don't believe in these two bills because I think it would give the government to much control. I mean where would they draw the line? would they drawn a line? could they be trusted not to cross the line if they did draw a line.

The problem seems to be that each website would be responsible for policing everything posted there. Most would not have the resourses to do that, and would have to shut down.

Wikipedia was working just fine for me, so I was wondering how they had blacked it out. The Wikipedia blackout is being done with Javascript and I use the noscript extension in Firefox. Once I allowed Javascript, I got their blackout page.

I've found quite a few sites are shutting down in protest as well.

I've called all of my reps, I hope each of you take the 10 minutes to do the same today - it might be the most important 10 minutes of the year.

I wrote my rep...sighned the pettition on Google.....I think we all need to call the whitehouse at once so the circuit board will overload

I called my reps. One opposed it, one is cosponsoring it, and the third opposes SOPA and wants some drastic changes to PIPA.

Interesting enough when I told the office of the one cosponsoring it that I oppose it and they will lose my vote for any future office campaigns, their response was "they are retiring at the end of the term, but we'll pass on your message".

I tell you, this is almost as good as Duck and Cover and Grandma's Pantry.

Interesting reactions to the Wikipedia Blackout:

I think its funny that a lot of them are students who are trying to do research but apparently lack the ability to READ.

lol

That string of comments illustrates why our impending doom is inevitable.

I'd go with "burn your village" instead of "lose my vote", but that might be construed as some form of threat.

OMG! That's hysterical. Impending doom is right.
