Even tho sometimes I pull my hair out wanting to tweak my photos a little beyond the "Advanced Editing" rules -- "Expert Editing" intimidates me to death. I'm glad we're staying safe and cozy behind the Advanced Editing rules.... but... hmmm... I'm not sure I have anything even worthy of this challenge anyway this year :(

It's time to start searching through all the files. ;D

I haven't even thought about it this year (last year I had it picked out way in advance).

No, but there's some leftover ballyhoo in the fridge.

But that has raisins. ick.

good thing I didn't eat any, I think I'll check out the brouhaha though. I hear the chef does wonders with it.

Those who are arguing for limited/basic editing seem to be trying to level the playing field, fearing that the voters will respond better to advanced editing results. Except that the level playing field is an illusion. Or a delusion. Trying to control the PP in the expectation that it will eliminate unfair advantage is ridiculous. The notion that PP has nothing to do with photography is even more ridiculous. You have to get it out of the camera somehow. How you get it out of the camera has just as much to do with photography as how you get it into the camera.

So, I was thinking. How would I set up a fair challenge? with an almost-level playing field? Control the environment. Control the subject. Control the light. Make all contenders use the same polaroid camera. Give them the exact same amount of time for shooting. Staple the polaroid prints to the wall in a long hallway, evenly & perfectly lit. Invite some people in to vote who know nothing about photography. Then, after the voting is completed, invite an artist in to do something with the polaroid prints.
+1 I like it!! :)

The poll so far looks like results of elections in North Korea.

Let's explore every possible permutation of what is and what isn't allowed within each ruleset we can have one challenge per permutation...if we do one challenge a week, the possibilities should be fully explored in about 20,000 years. We can decide then.

I'm pretty sure there will be nothing left of the dead horse by then either. Unless he fossilizes first.

This doesn't make sense. No one forced us to vote like this, this is not a dictatorship. I love expert, I have never scored under 6 in expert challenges (only in the movtivational/demotivationl slightly under 6) but I can't see why we should agree on changing the most clever thing - I mean to choose advanced!

An addition to the suggestion of having all 4 rulesets as challenges is to add up each members final score for each of the 4 challenges and find out the overall winner. This will encourage members to enter all of the rulesets, which will not only have them entering their favourite ruleset but to also try a ruleset that they are not so comfortable with.

Quite interesting. Maybe a little difficult to be able to enter every challenge. If you didn't shoot jpeg no minimal allowed...

Unlike North Korea no one is forcing you to stay here. Don't like the rules? Leave.

An exception can be made as there was no forewarning or preparation time to this challenge by allowing RAW....this can still be done with minimal as any adjustments are recorded with the RAW.

Karen I like you, I really do. But in my opinion this is not the sort of statement that needs to be made by you or anyone else to fellow members of the community.

Surely I'm not the only one noticing the phallic shape the poll is taking...

Did you know someone won a Nobel prize for describing---to borrow the terms of the poll---the 'basic' and 'expert' asymmetry.

Yes, but only if after closing the poll Langdon will the run the challenge in expert, as you ask he should.

I'd quite enjoy such a hybrid challenge. I really liked the average'd score idea.
