I hope this is an easy question.

Basic Editing says no text may be added to your submission.

My question, if I'm constructing my own props; may the props have text?

You can't ADD text to the image in post processing, but I'm pretty sure whatever is IN the original image is fine.

That's correct... so long as you aren't adding text through image processing techniques, it's fine. In other words, taking pictures of things that include text is not a violation of the rules.

This rule was mainly targeted at people who put names of photos, or their own name and copyright data on their submissions. That's not permitted.

Quite legal, though you need to keep in mind what impact it will have on voting. In no case will the impact be good, it think...

If it has your name visible, then it would be DQ'd I think because it violates anonymity.

Not true. The anonymity rule is a matter of site etiquette, but appears nowhere in the official site rules. We do, however, enforce a restriction on forum discussion of specific photos while voting is in progress.
