I have been really looking forward to buying my D60 at the end of the month. I know it is "prosumer" unit and not as awesome as all of the Mark models of Canon etc. However, I have been looking forward to upgrading from my 1000D!
However, upon looking on the web, I found the Rebel T3I. The only differences between the T3I and the 60D are the diopter magnification (the D60 is 95% compared to the 85% on the T3I), the case (dust and water resistant on the 60D). . .and the speed (5.3/ps on the 60 and 3.5/ps on the T3I). These are the only differences as far as I can tell, yet the 60D is 200 bucks more than the T3I.
I think the 200 bucks is worth those improvements. . .what do you guys who do a lot of Canon work think? |

| Do you currently feel restricted with your camera? For me, I don't see any benefit to the upgrade unless you absolutely need the faster FPS for sports/action or the waterproofing. |

The 60D uses the much more powerful LP-E6 battery, the same one used in the 7D and the 5D2. The Rebel uses the LP-E8 battery, with less than half the capacity. They claim "440 shots" for the smaller battery, 1100 for the larger one. That alone's enough to make the difference, IMO. Plus the Rebel's just too dang small for my hands, and my hands are not especially large. The 60D is just a little bigger, and that's a plus as far as I'm concerned. Control placement is also different, and the controls of the 60D make much more sense to me. However, the 60D is a continuation of the semi-pro line, which is what I've always used, and the other's a continuation of the Rebel line, which is what you currently use. So you may prefer the controls on that one, I donno.
Worth noting is that the 60D has a panel on the top of the body that shows vital readout information: that's only available on the rear LCD screen with the Rebel. Noteworthy, also, is that the grip side of the 60@ has a much more pronounced indentation than the Rebel's. When I was shooting the 5D and Penny had the 7D, I was wildly jealous of that; now I have the 5D2, which shares it, and I am in heaven. Grip-wise, anyway :-)
So mostly it's an ergonomics issue between them, and a battery-life issue too.

Do you mean the D60 (Nikon) or the 60D (Canon)?

He mentions 60D later in his post, the first D60 is a typo.

Personally, for me, that alone is worth the $200. I cannot stand monkeying with the read-LCD settings screen. It's slow, clunky, and all around annoying. I much prefer the quick-access buttons to select the setting I want to change, and the dials to quickly change it. |

I appreciate the feedback. I was just worried when I saw the T3i was so much cheaper with the same Mega Pixel capacity. . .and articulatable screen. I noticed there was a difference in battery types. . .but I have been using the 1000D with a similar crappy battery. . .and I would really like more life out of it. . .plus, if I understand it the 60D has a hook up for the mega battery pack and is more environmentally resistant. Just didn't want to buy into a 60D if the T3i was a decent upgrade. My buddy Lkn4truth who occasionally posts to this site advised me that the difference between the .85 and .95 magnificatio was also a big win for 60D and alone was worth the cost. . .so it looks like it will still be the 60D.
Thanks |

| From a 60d owner its worth it. Fits the hands better, balances lenses better and has the top LCD for easier settings. |

| I use the t2i and I find it a quite capable camera. I also have a 40D which is also very nice. The controls and layout on the xxD series of cameras seems to work better and gives more ease of changing settings while shooting. Better build and durability would seem to make the 60D the choice in my mind. I'm on my way to getting the 7D soon. The T2i is a good camera as would be the T3i. Spend the extra $200 and avoid regretting it later. |

I never really understood why canon made the t3i, you either want a t2i or a 60d. The t3i is to close to both to really let consumers discern the difference.
