As a general rule, I don't take off for titles. I do, however, think if it enhances the photo (which it truly can), I give bonus points.

dunno if a good title helps the score but a bad one sure can hurt. Lots of folks dont even look at the title while voting. Any way you look at it, if your shots is not good or lacking in any way, no title is gonna help it along!

Since this site is DPChallenge and not TitleChallenge I tend not to look at the title unless I don't understand the picture. Sometimes a humorous title may receive a slightly higher score, but not always.

I am going to second what Rooster said: A good title won't help a weak photo. That's kind of what I meant by enhancing a shot, the shot needs to be good, sometimes the title can give it a slight edge. But really, if it is lacking, it won't help it any.

It's funny that this thread is here. One of my new pet peeves is the title that includes one of the following:

-Abstract (Like we couldn't figure out that it was an abstract!)

-No Edit (or Not Edited something similar)

-DPChallenge (or DPC)

-The name of the challenge directly or re-worded.

Anybody else get irritated a little by these?

A good photo, yes. A mediocre photo, unlikely. A bad one, njet.

I think it makes the good photo's better and the bad photo's worse.
if it is a poor photo which i am going to give a 4 or so, then i read the title...
little johny playing with his blanket (not even planned).. no edit.
and well.. i will have to admit. i roll my eyes.. and give it a 3 or so

I believe it does, it's sort of an enhancement to the photo.

I generally study the photo first, and what it's trying to communicate to me. If I say "What is this", I look at the title to understand the photo more.. in which case the title helped and might get a better score.

Sometimes I see photos that are totally out of topic and the photographer titled it in a way to fit the challenge, in this case I vote accordingly and ignore the title (low score for not meeting the challenge with an attempt to fit by explaining in a title.

Ok then, how about mine?

Although my subject in the Portraits challenge was not the best looking :-(, I believe the title did get me some points, as indicated by several of the comments.

I do believe a title can enhance any photo. I always try to make it meaningful and helpful in interpreting my intention with the image.

True, in all reality, especially with the way most voters are, it probably does have an impact on score.

I have only picture right now. Opps, it's still in the voting stages.
