I am wondering if any of you change your vote in any way based on the title of the picture. For instance, bad title, lose a point. Good or clever title, add a point. Picture completely unclear (in terms of challenge) without the title to explain it -- lose a point. I don't include my reaction to the title in my vote ever, although I may comment on the title. I vote only on the picture. How about the rest of you?

I just vote on the picture, but sometimes the title adds some drama to it I think. And I dont like titles that say something about the editing in the photo, like no editing, no cropping, etc... I dont care if it was not cropped or edited.. :o

I think it's quite possible that people are biased one way or another by the title. For the most part I think it's more on a subconscious level; the human animal afterall, is a creature highly influenced by the power of suggestion.

I don't always pay attention to the titles. I mostly look at the title if I need a clue for what I'm looking at.

To me title and image are one thing, they are both part of the artist's effort to convey her/his message.
A well-thought-out title will defineitely add to my perception of the image, and thus my score. A very poor one may detract. I try not to score down for poor title, but sometimes I will subtract a point. I particularly dislike titles explaining parenthetically what was or was not done to the image.

A good photo shouldn't need an overly descriptive title. I do my best to ignore them and I don't vote lower because of them.

I think the title can definitely add or detract from a photo. I usually try to look at only the photo first, and then see what the title is. Some titles are very clever, and the photographer probably put in a good deal of thought into it, so I generally check them out.

I vote (and sometimes comment) on the whole presentation: photo, title and border (if applicable).
Like kirbic, I do not separate one from the other.

An effective title, apt and well chosen for a particular image, does get my attention and may well influence my vote. Titling is a care, IMO, which few photographers have elevated to an art, while, apparently, second thought to others.

A good title, I believe, is one which 'fits' the image well. A poor one, in turn, would be one which distracts from it or even 'pulls it down'. I have seen images with offensive titles too. An excellent title should contribute energy to the photograph.

It has happened (I believe It was during the Irony challenge) that the title alone has effected my final vote profoundly (both upward and downward). This is an exception though. As a rule (since most titles -to me- are neither excellent nor offensive), my vote only rounds up or down to the next number.

Yes. I subtract points for bad titles. I subtract the most points for titles that are trying to 'explain' something to me.

The only time I might subtract for a title is when the photographer is trying to make a lame attempt with it to position his/her photo in the challenge when it probably doesn't belong there.

I try to only judge the photo. I am really disgusted by some titles, they seem so pointless. A title could be related to a low score when it is the only method of understanding the subject.

The titles are a part of the presentation of the picture. I look at it first, mainly because the picture loads top to bottom. If it is creative, I might bump up the score, if it is just a generic one, I usually don't add or subtract. If it is misleading, an example would be "Murder" and the picture is a pale yellow soft focused banana, I would take off points. I really dislike titles like "untitled". I feel that the photographer has no imagination or opinion about their picture so why should I care about it either.
note: I do know someone was upset because they got comments about their title and made the decision to not name their pictures anymore, but there are consequences to every action.
