I'm very saddened to pass on this news. We've lost one of our DPC friends.

rrdjserv passed away on Wednesday. I received this email from his family:

>> For those of you that were unaware and those of you who were, Rick had been
>> battling cancer for the last few months. He was beginning to have more pain
>> and some kidney problems. We had planned a vacation to Vegas and arrived
>> there on Sat, Sept 17th..he starting feeling worse while there and spent
>> most of Tues in bed..late Tues night he began to become very disoriented and
>> all over body pain...he had been in Hopsice program in VA so I called them,
>> they called Vegas hospice and they came to hotel, and had him admitted to
>> the in patient hospice facility iwed n Vegas at 10:30 am Vegas time...they
>> were able to give him something for pain and to help with breathing as he
>> was struggling...he was in total renal failure...he passed away on Wed, Sept
>> 21 at 5:36 vegas time. He is being cremated in Vegas and then will be
>> returned to VA. Plans are still uncertain right now...

I never met Rick in person, but I had talked with him over DPC many times, and had even planned on getting our families together a couple of summers ago. But life got in the way. His nature photography was truly inspiring, and he also told me about a local photography competition that we both entered for a couple of years. He was always kind and encouraging.

I will miss him.

If you wish to write a few words here, I will forward this link on to his family in a day or two, they might want to see it.

"Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

I didn't know him either, but I feel for him and his family... Them in our prayers on this difficult moment...

Thanks for sharing.

My deepest condolences. We once had a series of pm exchanges with him helping me out on a shot. It was a success. He congratulated me later. Then i did not hear from him again. I had no idea of what he was going through.

I offer my prayers and wish him comfort in the better place that he is in rignt now.

Never had a chance to "meet" but certainly like some of his shots; he contributed his "art" and for that we must both thank and miss him...

Rick Cox was a fine bird photographer with an excellent sense of humor.

Yes, we will miss him and his work, but at least we have some very good
images to remember him by.

Vawendy, thank you for posting this.

I have to concur, I can't remember seeing his name, or looking at his portfolio, but he was certainly a talented bird photographer. I guess it is true that most artists become famous only after they die. :(

:(

We are lucky to lose so few of our friends here, but the infrequency makes each loss all the more painful and sad.

He will clearly be missed very much.
