You may be familiar with the Red Couch Project Where a red couch was sent around the world and pictures were taken at the various stops.
I think an interesting idea would be to start with something much smaller and cheaper to mail (an Elmo doll or teddy bear). Maybe two or three exact copies for wider distribution.
Take a picture then send a PM to another DPC member asking if you can send it to them. If they say yes, they give you their address and you send the item to them. They take a picture and send the item on to another person.
Possibly there could be a page where people sign up to be included in this so you don't have to search everyone to find an interested party and avoid duplication.
After a year, the pictures are posted in a challenge.
I realize this is a bit of a departure from the standard challenge format, but I think it would be great fun. The only bad thing is waiting so long for the posting and judging.
If not a challenge, then I would be willing to start this as a running forum thread.

Sounds great, I'd love to be part of something like that.
Simular to the garden gnome! |

Hmmm.... assuming each recipient takes the picture immediately and mails Elmo out the next day, an average of 4 days divided into 365 means only 91 entries. Are you suggesting we have such a small group over that period of time? ...Of course, that in itself could add to the interest and suspense (i.e., "will I be one of the few?")

I think that would great fun, and if we have multiple copies of the same item (like 3 elmo's), then we can multiple that minimum submission. My fear would be the lazy person that decides to not send it to the next person. |

we could keep a running diary, sort of like the Where's George website that tracks stamped bills. Whoever is in possession adds their pic to the thread right after they take it. at the end of the year, we could vote on the best representation of the item.
Some bonehead (yeah, I'd prolly volunteer) could also host all the pix on his/her website if we didn't want to do it as a thread here. That way each pic could accompany a little story about the location etc.

Lol, sounds fun. In third grade my class did one of those things where you send a stuffed animal to friends and they send it to their friends and so on and it get sent back to you by a certain date...well...I was the only one not to get mine back. *sniffs* I know it went pretty far cause I got a pic of him in like...China I think...but he never came home...

From time to time I've thought about trying something like this, but I've never quite known how to go about it. If this is going to go worldwide, I'm definitely interested. It would be important to keep it small and light though to keep postal costs down.
